My vinyl collection has grown to include albums I inherited from various family members and friends but there's a story behind each and every one. If that sort of thing interests you, I think you will find this article from Pop Matters to be a very compelling read. I know I did.

This isn't on YouTube (at least to my knowledge) but if you click on the link below you can watch it at CNN's site.

When I first heard Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real, I have to admit wasn't too taken with what I heard. That wasn't the case, however when I saw them on The Late Show with David Letterman recently. You can definitely hear his father's influence in his singing and guitar playing but it's not overly obvious (or at least it wasn't to me).

The first single from Bonnie Raitt's new album, Slipstream, which came out yesterday. It's a reggae-tinged version of the late Gerry Rafferty's "Right Down the Line".

New BBC special on Southern Rock. There's also an article about the documentary here for those that may be interested in reading it.

Stumbled upon this after watching the Southern Rock documentary I posted above. It's a compilation of performances from The Old Grey Whistle Test from over the years that includes Skynyrd, Dickey Betts, Tony Joe White, Elvin Bishop, ZZ Top, Delaney & Bonnie (with Eric Clapton), the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Black Oak Arkansas, the Marshall Tucker Band, the Atlanta Rhythm Section and others. Be forewarned, it even includes an appearance from Gregg Allman and Cher.

‎"While Jeff Tweedy and Jay Farrar were scampering around in Pampers and playing with wooden blocks, Charle Gearheart and the Goose were fusing country and rock sounds like nobody else, plumbing the depths of hillbilly, folk, bluegrass and rock music almost two decades before any of that 'No Depression' stuff became tres chic. Goose Creek's unique country-rock hybrid had an earthier, more organic sound than just about anything coming out of Nashville circa 1971-74."
- Rev. Keith Gordon, Blurt Magazine

The YouTube description for this concert:
Goose Creek Symphony has developed their own style of jam-band original Americana music since the mid-'60's. They perform at the Jammin at Hippie Jack's Americana Music Festival in Overton County, TN.
Goose Creek Symphony is considered by many to be one of the most original bands of their time. Major record labels (Capitol & Columbia) of the 60s/early 70s didn't know what to do with a band that played a mixture of rock and roll, folk, jazz and country with an undeniable hillbilly influence, a hippie attitude and a reckless sense of instrumental daring. They used horns and fiddles as well as effects and blended it with psychedelic rock and roll. The true definition of "Cosmic American Music".

I remember learning to sing this back at Mother of Divine Grace Grammer School and thinking "Oh yeah, when they invent fuzz tone for electric guitars, this tune is gonna be rock-out GOLD.”

But I really do like Neil's take on it - and the video is pretty wild. Thanx, Tiki! :D
A most mysterious calling harbour
So far, but yet, so near
Where I see the day
When my hair's full gray
and I finally...disappear. BUT NOT YET!!

The entire album is comprised of old standards such as "This Land Is Our Land", "Tom Dooley", "Clementine", etc. In regards to Americana, Neil has been quoted as saying, "They're songs we all know from kindergarden, but Crazy Horse has rearranged them, and they now belong to us."
