Stephen Bruton performing with the Resentments (which also included Jon Dee Graham on guitar, vocals and lap steel, bassist Bruce Hughes and drummer John Chipman) in Stuttgart, Germany on December 7, 2006. The Resentments were my introduction to Stephen way back in 2001 during a visit to Austin for SXSW. It was also the first time I'd ever seen Jon Dee Graham in concert. Stephen, who died on May 9, 2009 would have been 66 years old today. He had one hell of a pedigree, playing with everyone from Bonnie Raitt to Kris Kristofferson but I'm sure most people here are familiar with him because of Buffett's cover of "Trip Around the Sun" from 2004's License To Chill.
Joni Mitchell turns 69 today.
I missed posting about it but Guy Clark turned 71 yesterday.
New documentary from the BBC on 45's called The Joy of the Single. In all honesty, when I was growing up I was way more into albums than I was 45's. I've probably purchased more 45's as an adult thanks to events like Record Store Day. CD singles are a different story entirely, I have tons of them but it's more for the "B-side" material than it is for the actual single. Hell, I even have a handful of cassingles, all for the love of the B-side.
Documentary packed with memories, images and insights into the power of pop and rock's first and most abiding artefact - the seven inch, vinyl 45 rpm record; a small, perfectly-formed object that seems to contain the hopes, fears, sounds and experiences of our different generations. The viewer is invited on a journey of celebration from the 1950s rock n roll generation to the download kids of today, taking in classic singles from all manner of artists in each decade - from the smell of vinyl to the delights of the record label; from the importance of the record shop to the bittersweet brevity of the song itself; from stacking singles on a Dansette spindle to dropping the needle and thrilling to the intro. With contributions from Noddy Holder, Jack White, Richard Hawley, Suzi Quatro, Holly Johnson, Jimmy Webb, Pete Waterman, Norah Jones, Mike Batt, Graham Gouldman, Miranda Sawyer, Norman Cook, Trevor Horn, Neil Sedaka, Paul Morley, Rob Davies, Brian Wilson and Mike Love.
Very rare footage of R.E.M. performing at the 688 Club in Atlanta, Georgia back in 1981 prior to them being signed to I.R.S. Records. In this performance they're opening for Joe "King" Carrasco. This footage was originally unveiled to the public during R.E.M. in Perspective: An Athens History which was hosted by the Athens Historical Society in 2007. The footage is from the collection of Wuxtry Records owner Dan Wall who also premiered some footage of them performing at Wuxtry in 1980 during the R.E.M. Retrospective in 2007. This performance from the 688 Club is evidently the first Wall plans to post to YouTube in the days to come.

Thanx, SP! I wouldn't have seen it in the other thread.
A most mysterious calling harbour
So far, but yet, so near
Where I see the day
When my hair's full gray
and I finally...disappear. BUT NOT YET!!
Tim Burton directed the new Killers video with Winona Ryder. The song and the video are owning me today.
I knew this girl made of memories and phrases, who lived her whole life in both chapters and stages.
Danced 'til the dawn, wished all her worries away.
She's a long way from a West Nashville grand ballroom gown.
