One of my very favorite songs by Ryan Adams, this is probably the best performance I've ever seen of it online. This is from a Songwriters Circle performance he took part in last year along with Neil Finn and Janis Ian that aired on the BBC.

From David Menconi's Losering blog, a sort of online accompaniment to a book he wrote about Ryan that was published last year called Ryan Adams: Losering, a Story of Whiskeytown:
"Come Pick Me Up” on the BBC

Here’s the thing about Ryan Adams: Even when he’s being a gigantic pain in the a$$, he’s still just about always the best musician in the room. One particular case in point is an October 2011 BBC Songwriters’ Circle taping that Ryan played with Neil Finn and Janis Ian, an event referenced in the closing chapter of “Losering.” According to eyewitness accounts, some bad vibes went down and most observers seemed to blame Ryan — although Ryan disputed that and argued about it online, calling accounts of his misbehavior “fan fiction.” But at the very least, it seems safe to say that Ryan didn’t endear himself to his fellow performers based on what was said afterward.

Just another Ryan Adams story, right? Right, one of many. Ultimately, however, that matters a lot less than the absolutely stunning version of “Come Pick Me Up” he played at the show. Give it a look, and I dare you not to get a lump in your throat because it really is that good. It appears that there’s some tension in the way Finn and Ian are looking at Ryan, and yet they also both appear to be fairly blown away by what they’re hearing; I love how they’re both singing along under their breath.

It’s the type of performance that earns redemption, if not forgiveness.

I've never been much of a Mellencamp fan but this looks like an interesting project. In addition to Mellencamp there's also Neko Case, Elvis Costello, Kris Kristofferson, Phil & Dave Alvin, Taj Mahal, Ryan Bingham and others. The CD/DVD comes out on June 4th.

For anyone with more than a passing interest in James Taylor, this was filmed fairly early on in his career.

Vintage Michael Murphey from back in the days before he had to add "Martin" to his name. I'm not sure where this comes from but when he mentions Austin it elicits a big response from the crowd. I would guess an old episode of Austin City Limits but it doesn't look like the set from that show.

"To distinguish himself from another well-known actor named Michael Murphy, the singer began using his middle name for film and music credits. To this day, he is known to the world as Michael Martin Murphey"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Martin_Murphey

I saw him back in '77 or so.... he was one of the openers (Billy Swan was the other) for Kris Kristofferson & Rita Coolidge (back when they were married.) Great flashback!

Yes, I do but I can't say I was much of a fan of Pure Prairie League during this era. They began to water down their sound in order to fit into the more commercialized brand of country that was happening during this time period. I much prefer the pre-Vince Gill versions of Pure Prairie League. That said, I think Vince is a great singer, songwriter and picker but this version of Pure Prairie League had very little in common with the previous versions of the band from a musical standpoint. Unfortunately, a lot of folks seem to think he was a member of the band back in the days when they recorded "Amie" and "Two Lane Highway" when in reality he was only a member for two albums.
