The Show in Atlanta
They say confession does a soul good. Well, I must confess I didn't catch the show in Atlanta on RM. Had to work late. I'm sorry I missed it. I have a feeling it was a special show. But looking over the set list, I'll tell you, my PH brethren, what I liked (Drum roll, please. Long, dramatic pause . . .):
I love how Jimmy is letting Ilo open for him. I admire how Jimmy attempts to draw attention to young artists. Two more examples of that from the show: the presence of Zac Brown (whose music I love. And I absolutely disagree that Zac is a Buffett clone. If you listen to Zac's album "The Foundation," the songs on there, like "Sic 'Em on a Chicken," are uniquely Zac.) Another example: letting Nadirah sing "Creola." I don't know about you, my feathery brother/sister, I have a soft spot for "Floridays."
More things I applaud: Bringing back "Pencil Thin Mustache" (I love the classics), "Take Another Road" (maybe not one of the classics, but I've always loved that song and the cheesy video that Jimmy shot of it at the old drive-in theater on Stock Island), "Boat Drinks" (I don't know about you, but I can't get enough Boat Drinks, in so many ways), "Woman Goin' Crazy on Caroline Street" (I don't know about you, but I've gone crazy on Caroline Street a few times myself), "Son of a Son" (I always love to hear it), "Cuban Crime of Passion" (Makes me want to break out my white sport's coat. Yes, I did have a Don Johnson jacket in 1984), "Tampico Trauma" (great, old song I wish Jimmy would play more often), and "Lovely Cruise," which it has been.
I also like that Jimmy gave Mac a shout out on "Back Where I Come From."
Well, there you are, PHs, my review of a show I did not hear. Not bad for a guy who was working overtime.
What are your thoughts on the Hot-lanta show?

I agree, considering how difficult it was for Buffett when he started I think he really likes to help newbies today. And I also think he knows he didn't do it all on his own and he appreciates the work of those that have been around him all these years. He's also surrounded himself with an excellent group of musicians, Peter Mayer is incredible. It really was a great show last night.

first off damm it was cold. Of course i started drinking around 11 am and I thought na i wont need a jacket boy was i wrong. The first thing that i noticed was how many more young people there was there. I really enjoyed seeing jimmy in person again. Thought Zac did a great job. So did Ilo. a lot of tailgaters got there later than 4. last year most folks were there by 3. all in all a good show even though the big top theme just doesnt mesh well with the tropical music and decorations. JMHO!

Re: The Show in Atlanta
definitely one of the best set lists in a long time. Buffett songs alone were great and ZB was a nice addition

Re: The Show in Atlanta
me and my crew got set up by about 12:30pm, ..the colder weather sucked...we did have some sun moments but the very windy (watched one guy's tent blow like 2 rows from his tailgate spot) and cloudy conditions kind of dampened the spirits... From where i was sitting in the lawn...the sound wasn't very good (or maybe it was the alcohol) so i missed a lot of his comments between songs and stuff..so that kind of sucked...but was glad to hear some of those songs we haven't heard in awhile... But a cold windy day at a Buffett concert is better than a day at the office any day..hahahaha.
"At a moment like this, I can't help but wonder...what would Jimmy Buffett do?"
Re: The Show in Atlanta
Nice recap of what capnbobby thought of the setlist and "things" Jimmy does to promote other artists...something I have always enjoyed about Jimmy.
I might add that I especially like the Will Kimbrough songs too.

Re: The Show in Atlanta
If anyone has photos from the show I would love to see. My daughter and I were on the front row and Jimmy gave her his Flip Flops! Both of them were signed!

Reminds me alot of an August "summer" day at Alpine Valley last year...B.I.G.
