Turks and Caicos Islands
Has anyone been there? The wife and I are going in October and I'd love to visit with someone who's been before. We can't wait. Only 6 months!

Hello, new to the forum, but...
My wife and I went to Provo in 2006 for our honeymoon. Still our favorite island we have been to.
We stayed at The Sands at Grace Bay, would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Because the island is expensive, to save money we went to the IGA when we got there and bought food for breakfast and lunch and beer and liquor. That way we could spend money on dinner. A hamburger is $20!! We made pitchers of pina coladas to take out to the beach and drink. You will not find a better beach anywhere.
We went on three excursions
Two with J&B tours http://www.jb-tours.com/
The Island Discovery was memorable. The best part was diving for your own conch shells
We also did the Island getaway. They drop you off on one of the many deserted islands in the morning with food and drinks and pick you up in the afternoon. As you can imagine, it can be pretty fun with the wife =)
We also did a Reef Peepers http://www.reefpeepers.com/ snorkeling tour. The company is better managed, but we enjoyed the other tours better.
Hope you have fun

We stayed at beaches and it's the same as beaches anywhere but when you get outside the Island is beautiful would really recomend it. The week before we were there one of the big NBA stares was playing basketball with the guests. I was listening to a girl singing and playing guitar one evening, did not know her but found out her name was Jill Hennessey (Crossing Jordan) who is aslo a singer songwriter. Enjoy but if you are not all inclusive take lots of money.alaura1974 wrote:I have been there.... it was a few years ago though. Stayed at the Beaches resort.

Re: Turks and Caicos Islands
You are right about Beaches, but that is a wonderful family resort. I havent been there since they did the new section, which is supposed to be amazing!! I was there for work, I am a travel agent so I got to go check it out!!
It is great to get out and about on the island, as well as to the other islands.
We did an excursion where they took us to Iguana Island, and then another island where there was a little sand peninsula that you could walk out on that went out about a half mile, so from the shore it looks like you are walking on water!!
That is the spot where you can snorkel for sand dollars, and they are everywhere!!
The guys did dive in and got a bunch of conch for everyone, and when we got to the shore of one of the beaches they broke them open and made fresh conch salads!!
Best beaches, best snorkeling...... definitely!!!
Right down the beach from the Beaches resort there is an underwater preserve, that is roped off that you
can snorkel around.... Bight Reef maybe?!?!? Anyhow, it was awesome!!

We are headed to Grand Turk in November via the Carnival Miracle. First time there. Would anyone share some info for snorkelers? We would especially enjoy some advice as to some good snorkeling right from the beach close to the cruise ship pier. Thank you in advance.

To answer our own question, the beach snorkeling at M'ville Grand Turk is excellent. Located right off the cruise ship dock, we were able to snorkel from the beach out to the "wall". Excellent vis and bountiful fish. Saw pods of large Squid plus a three foot 'cuda that kept eyeballing us. Highly recommend this port. Additionally the drinks at M'ville were strong. Two Five O'clock Somewheres and Wayne was buzzed.
