Jimmy never coming back to Cleveland??
So, yesterday a local radio station asked which artist should return to Cleveland who hasn't been here for awhile. Of course the first caller said Jimmy, since he hasnt been to Blossom since 2004. A few minutes later another caller said that Jimmy wont return to Blossom due to the way the venue (Blossom Music Center) treated the ph's the last time he was here...
What happened?

The venue and cops were terrible--tailgating was a downer. Police did not let PHs do their thing...people were being put in cuffs left and right, open ticket containers were being handed out like pamphlets, etc.dancastro wrote:So, yesterday a local radio station asked which artist should return to Cleveland who hasn't been here for awhile. That was at least what I recall seeing in our parking lot section.
I actually try not to go to any shows at Blossom any more because of the sour taste that left in my mouth.

Re: Jimmy never coming back to Cleveland??
The Mrs and I were at that show and actually took a cab to the show and back to the hotel because friends of ours in the lot told us how bad it was before we got there.
From what I remember, our seats were good and the set list was great, but the security and staff were a bit much.

Blossom is as close to my home that I ever expect to see Jimmy. Its a hassle to get in and out of, the cops are horrible... Last time I went to Blossom for Jimmy I had about six friends with me, and we were walking though the lot to head into the show, and they actually had female cops dressed up like your average Parrothead that were handing out leis(sp)? to any guys walking by with a beer.... they were then inviting them to the nearby minivan, which had a uniformed officer sitting inside writing out the open container tickets... I don't go back to Blossom for anything, even if Bubba plays there.

Re: Jimmy never coming back to Cleveland??
I was there...I didn't have a problem but apparently I got lucky. I actually had a really great time at that concert. I wish Jimmy would come back to Cleveland...it would probably make my year.
I will definitely agree though that Blossom Music Center has a tendancy to really mess things up...especially when it comes to parking. Definitely not my favorite venue in the world...but, it's only about 20 minutes away from me, so, I will probably continue to go there.

Wow, I don't remember that at all. I was at that show, and remember having a blast... then again, I don't think we showed up until about an hour before the show. (Sorry, it was only my 2nd or 3rd, I didn't quite "get it" yet.) I haven't been to Blossom in a long time... are they still that cranky about tailgating?GumboPirate wrote:The venue and cops were terrible--tailgating was a downer. Re: Jimmy never coming back to Cleveland??
now that's shady...blossom does s***. i guess i just like the idea of seeing jimmy and then being able to just go back to my own home and sleep in my own bed. eh, oh well, it's fun going to different venues and meeting new people, too.V-town Fin Truck wrote:Blossom is as close to my home that I ever expect to see Jimmy. I have to laugh when I see a comment like that. If a venue is willing to pay his price, does anyone really think he gives a crap about this? Let's be real, he's a businessman. It's all about the money.dancastro wrote:So, yesterday a local radio station asked which artist should return to Cleveland who hasn't been here for awhile. Blossom in '04 was my first show, I too was clueless about the hardcore tailgaiting at a Buffett show. I did know Blossom has a bad rep. on this....kinda makes sense now.Big Green PH wrote:Wow, I don't remember that at all. The last time Jimmy played New Orleans was 1999 (on tour, not Margaritaville, which is generally impossible to get into, and Jazz Fest, of course). He just doesn't seem interested in playing here in a touring capacity I guess.

This article is the third or fourth place I have heard/read about the tailgating clause...I do believe that is why it took Jimmy so long to go back to St. Louis because of the terrible, over-bearing police and zero tolerance tailgating policy that the venue had. However, they have since resolved the issue, and now St. Louis is a great place to go!
I do not see Blossom changing though...it's a shame since its got such a great lawn...

Re: Jimmy never coming back to Cleveland??
Hmmm... I dunno about the tailgating being a "necessary" aspect of a Buffett show. There was no single lot to tailgate in at the Nashville show. Had it not been for 20" inches or so of torrential rain, we'd all have had fun anyway. Heck we had fun in spite of the rain. There were many little hangout spots, and the Nashville Club stepped up to put on a GREAT pre-concert party. As Jimmy himself said that night, "Parrotheads find a way!" . Just my two cents. ![battingeyes [smilie=battingeyes.gif]](./images/smilies/battingeyes.gif)

This year was the first year the Woodlands allowed tailgating. Even then, they didn't announce you could do it until after the PHCs had made plans at local bars.
In 08, the Woodland cops made the M'ville crew go back over to the Pavilion and wouldn't them hang out at the "pre-party" event hosted by the Woodlands. I was talking to the guy who drove around with the frozen concoction maker when the cops came up and told him to leave.
I must be wishing on someone else's star....

Here in St. Louis, years ago we couldn't tailgate at all. Then a few years ago, Verison bought the amphitheater and the tailgating began. A Buffett show just isn't a Buffet show with out the tailgating.
