By Robert Half International
A Robert Half survey recently identified the most common workplace buzzwords. Following are just a small handful. Are you guilty of using the following terms?
· Game changer -- As in, "Transitioning from products to solutions was a game changer for our company."
· Value-add -- As in, "We have to evaluate the value-add of this initiative before we invest more."
· It is what it is -- As in, "The server is down today, and clients are mad. It is what it is."
· Interface -- As in, "My job requires me to interface with all levels of the organization."
· Circle back -- As in, "I'm heading out of the office now, but I'll circle back with you later."
How about enlightening your fellow BNers with other buzz words and phrases that irritate you to no end.
My personal favorite is "synergy"...amazing how many product marking plans or staff reduction plans should be "successful" because of "synergy".
For example here is one way to use the term...
(without "synergy"): (boss) "Sorry Fred we need to cut your job"... (Fred) "Why you SOB I put 20 hard years in for you"
(with "synergy"): (boss with a couple shinny shoe suit and tie big shots next to him) "Sorry Fred, our consultants, you know those guys walking around with the laptop computers and messing up our conference room the last four months, tell me that eliminating your position will provide our company with a "synergy" that will push us to the top".... (Fred) "Oh I see what you mean...fair enough...I'll clean out my desk this afternoon and don't worry about that vacation pay you owe me"
