Shark Stolen At Mansfield
My small family group attended the Saturday June 19 show in Mansfield, MA. We brought along Mike our large blow up shark. He was heavy duty with swim handles attached to him. Mike has been to about 10 Buffett concerts. He swam in our pool when not going to concerts.
We were in the premium parking section near the end. We went out for a walk to see the sites as we always do. When we returned our beloved shark was gone. He couldn't have blown away because there was a fence behind us. He was also under our portable table.
Some scumbag must have stolen him. We asked some of our neighbors, but they said they didn't see anything. They offered condolences and a drink.
We've never had anything taken by fellow parrotheads in over 20 concerts. The times must be changing. Be careful out there kiddies.

Re: Shark Stolen At Mansfield
I have had decorated hats, food (not from the table but from a cooler) and a large bottle of Crown stolen from the bed of our pickup on different occasions. And this happened while we were entertaining a few feet away! The irony is that if you come up and talk to us, you are offered the stuff for free. There is no need to take the whole thing and deprive us.

George Carlin when speaking of art once said, "If you nail two things together that have never been nailed together before, some schmuck will buy it from you,."
My comment on that is....
"If you don't also nail it down, some schmuck will steal it from you."
Sorry about Mike.

Re: Shark Stolen At Mansfield
A couple of years ago someone stole our palm tree cooler while we were in the show. Only time I have ever had anything stolen in 16 concerts. I always figured you could leave out whatever you wanted and not worry about it beacause Buffett fans are class acts. The times they are a changin'....

What a BUMMER! Had a flaming hot grill walk away two years ago, at Greatwoods. And we thought by paying for the premiere parking we would be away from the riffraff.

Riff Raff walks. I found that sometimes and not always premeire parking is only worth it for a quick exit.stingray wrote:What a BUMMER! Had a flaming hot grill walk away two years ago, at Greatwoods. And we thought by paying for the premiere parking we would be away from the riffraff.

Re: Shark Stolen At Mansfield
Sucks about the shark.

This is going to sound like a real rookie move (considering I've been to at least 10 concerts), but in our haste to get into the show the other night we left all of our stuff in the bed of my pick-up truck. Normally I transfer everything into the cab. We came out of the show, and out of all of the stuff, chairs, folding canopy, tables, food, etc. the thieves only took about 20 landsharks, and the cooler. Is alcohol really worth that much to these people? They rummaged through everything to get that cooler. The funny thing was they didn't go into one of the bags. If they did they would have found a few bottles of gin, and margaritta drinks.

Re: Shark Stolen At Mansfield
Sorry that had to happen. I have learned there are some not so great people in any type crowd. If the majority is cool, you're ahead of the game, but it sux when this happens. I had someone tear up my decorated hat one year. Had some group this year jack up the bid on 1 of 2 high ticket auction items and then renege, costing the charities a pretty penny. Karma is pretty powerful, though. I wouldn't be surprised if the idiots get introduced to a real shark in the future!

My basic rule of thumb is "don't leave behind what you expect to find later". Sad that it's that way but apparently it is.

Yeah- when friends ask what stuff we have to pack up before the show and what stuff we can leave out the answer is always: Only pack the stuff you want to keep.
And we recently had an 'incident' with a beer cooler at a lacrosse game tailgate that got close to ugly.
sukcs about your sharky though, that is a big bummer.

The sad thing is .....not only Parrotheads go to Jimmy Buffett concerts....as PH wouldn't do something like that.
Last year at Bristow we had the cooler stolen out of the back of the pickup I was riding in, while we were in the show. We found it a few hundred yards away...empty of course. It had to be kids who weren't old enough to buy it themselves. Why someone would steal your shark......I got nuthin',
but am sorry to hear it

The downside to concerts and sporting events is that we are at the mercy of the people around us. Civility and hospitality really are essential qualities in people.

Re: Shark Stolen At Mansfield
So sorry to hear that A1A. I had heard last year at GW there was an issue with a bunch of kids getting into the lot and stealing beers out of the coolers. Unfortunately, anyone can get into the parking lot (I have never had anyone look at my ticket to get into the lot). I would imagine once in, they can rely on many generous parrotheads to get drinks before and during the show.
