Very difficult viewing, just as I figured it would be (which is why it took me so long to finally get around to watching this) but very well worth it. I wish had watched it sooner. This is a movie who's impact will stay with me for a great long while, if not forever.
A transcendent film for me, too.
Saw it when it came out in '07, and ever since have been tracing Alex's footsteps little by little thru the Southwest.
I've traveled the Colorado River from it's origin down into Mexico, explored the nearby desert and Salton Sea (including spending time with Leonard at Slab City), and spent many days there contemplating the existential ideal that Alex yearned to find.
It's good to be back to work full-time, but it's also fascinating to see life through the opposite end of the lens.

Very cool! Collin Fletcher wrote a book called, "River," where he backpacked and rafted the same trip. You might enjoy the book.

This is one of those films that's definitely not for everybody but I certainly enjoyed it. Most of the reviews on Amazon either give it one star or five stars so that tells you something right there, folks either love it or hate it. I've even read accounts of people walking out of the theatre. It's a slow moving film with very little dialogue and with no discernable plot to speak of, yet it still manages to tell a story, no matter how unconventional. In other words, if you're looking for popcorn munching, summer blockbuster fare, you're not going to find it here. If you're interested in a what is a cinematically beautiful, thought provoking type of movie that allows you to assign your own meaning to it,
Tree of Life should be right up your alley.

Sorry but Into the Wild was a story of natural selection to me. Just a different version of Timothy Treadwell.
I watched "Madea's Big Happy Family" tonight. It was funny.

Yes, Christopher McCandless got in over his head but I really don't see it as a story of natural selection. Perhaps a little more research would have revealed that the potential was there for the river to widen but mistakenly eating the poison foilage seems to have been just that, an honest mistake.
Watched this last night. Not bad as b-movie fare goes but the best part about it was the extended cameo from Tom Waits.

Took the grandkids to see this one Friday Night. Wow, 3D sure has come a long way since I saw my first one, Andy Warhol's Frankenstein over 30 years ago.

I can't believe I'd never heard of this one until just recently. If you have never seen it, I couldn't recommend it more highly but be warned, it's not an easy movie to watch and if you're anything like me it will have you running through every emotion from outright anger to being on the verge of tears.

I finally watched the 28 Days/Weeks later movies. Not really that great as far as zombie type movies go imo.

I'm posting both covers because as you can tell from the one on the left, it advertises it as a comedy with quotes such as "Laugh out loud funny..." and "Violently funny" despite the fact that
Lymelife is anything but a comedy. So much for truth in advertising. That's not to say I was let down by the movie because I wasn't, I just went in expecting a comedy (plus it was filed under Comedy at Blockbuster) and got a drama instead. There's nothing all that out of the ordinary here as it's a pretty typical coming of age story set in the 70s but there's more than a few twists and turns along the way to draw you in.

A lot of laugh out loud moments for me. The trio of Bateman, Sudeikis and Day were funny. Jennifer Aniston's character was......well played. Kevin Spacey was well cast in his role. I would have liked to see more of Jamie Foxx's character in the movie though.
