Toyota Center Houston 12/6?

A friend of mine showed me an email he received as an American Express card holder. It offered him two free tickets to a Jimmy Buffett concert on December 6, 2010 at the Toyota Center. It even gave him the seat numbers. I checked the Toyota Center and there is nothing scheduled that night. I know he plays private concerts but I have seen nothing about this anywhere. Does anyone know if this is a scam?

Thanks all. He showed me the email, but it was not directly from Am Ex. He thought it related to some business Platinum account he has. If it's a scam, he's buying me margaritas. If I'm wrong, I buy but I get to go. I can't lose this bet.

I sometimes get emails about American Express presales for concerts but I've never gotten one offering me free tickets.

A friend of ours got this offer as well about 2 weeks ago, and he has a platinum card. I think he responded back to them indicating he wanted them. It does sound like a very easy way to snatch someones amex card number...

I received an email as well from Amex Platinum and called Amex. They transferred me to Toyota Center with my questions then I went online and was given 2 seats for the December 6 show at no charge. At no time was I asked for my card number. My wife said it sounded like a warrant roundup scam but I am clean as of today!

Just spoke to AMEX. It is a legit offer to Platinum Cardholders. I used my card to buy tickets a few times. I think I have just been profiled!! In this case no worries.....

amazingly, the majority of the last 4 posters claiming it was legit all have 1 post and/or brand new accounts.

I started this thread, and I'm still not sure about all of this. I went ahead and registered for tickets using a friend's card. He received an email giving him a code to enter and referring him to the website. I did NOT have to put in the am ex number, but I did have to register with the Toyota Center and give some basic information. I'm still nervous about all this, but if it's a fraud, it's a damn good one. I received a confirmation number and they are supposed to email the tickets on December 2, 2010.

Assuming it's good, do you think it's Jimmy and Mac, or do the Coral Reefers make an appearance? I saw Jimmy and Mac by themselves in Austin at a Kinky Friedman fundraiser, but that was a relatively small theater. The Toyata Center seats about 19,000. They do have smaller events there and cover the top level with tarps (been to a few Houston Aeros games). I can't believe 19,000 Platinum Card members are going to RSVP and attend this concert. The scalpers would have a field day selling "free" tickets.

None of this makes any sense. I give up.

the site says

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band

I would think that means everyone
