Softly call the Muster, let comrade answer "here".......
11 years ago, I woke up to hear that the Aggie Bonfire fell. In the end, 12 students lost their lives that day and Texas A&M would be forever changed.
My first bonfire in 85 was the turning point that made me want to be an Aggie. After my first Muster, I was so proud to be a part of the Aggie family.
Attending the memorial service in 1999, seeing all the candles lit across the polo fields and campus, it confirmed that being an Aggie was the greatest thing ever. I didn't know any of the students who died, but it felt like a part of me died with them that day.
In a way, it is a lot like being a Parrothead. People don't get it unless they experience it. We are the first ones to laugh about ourselves and also the first ones there to help a friend or stranger in need.
Please take a moment to remember the families and friends of the fallen...
Bonfire is still being built, though it is not on campus and not an official university activity. I don't think it will ever come back to campus. It's sad that the current students don't get to see it built everyday as they go to campus. There are great pictures of this years bonfire on TexAgs... the link is here - http://texags.com/main/forum.reply.asp? ... orum_id=14
The last Aggie to die was Tim Kerlee. If you haven't read his story, you can find it here: http://texags.com/main/forum.reply.asp? ... orum_id=14 I have to warn you that the picture posted is disturbing. Tim was in the stack, alive, but refused to be rescued until all those he saw were taken care of.
Say a little prayer for the Aggies today. Say a little prayer for Virginia Tech. Say a little prayer for your loved ones.

Re: Remember the 12...
My nephew was a student then, scared the poop out of me because I really didn't know anything other than he was a student. Luckily he was not there at the bonfire. The Aggie bonfire had been a cherished tradition for years. My dad was an Aggie but I never was able to attend the bonfire. My son's dad did several times as a child.
I remember watching the news stories horrified at what happened. It still brings tears to my eyes.
Janice - I hope you don't mind, and hope it doesn't stir up awful memories but I feel this is possibly necessary for someone that might not know or remember how awful it was
Here's a great article How the families of 12 fallen Aggies have coped with tragic loss

Re: Remember the 12...
Probably everyone around knows how much I am NOT an A&M fan.
(A&M and Texas Tech are mortal enemies)
But I will never forget hearing about the accident while in Amarillo with both of my parents recovering from surgeries.
((((A&M students, alums, and those that did not survive building of the bonfire))))
