Possible stops would be St. Martin, Antigua, St. Lucia, and Barbados (sailing from San Juan, PR). If this trip becomes a reality, I'm sorry to report, we would not also be able to consider a charter sail the BVI in 2012, too. I'd like to, believe me, but I doubt the budget would allow it..... :(

I'll keep everybody posted....... :pirate:
Perhaps you could convince them to go on a charter to the BVI instead
I already tried.......
:o hmmm choice between your own boat with four other people going where you want and being drug around the Caribbean with thousands of other people on a giant ship where you always create a crowd. Your friends must be the more civilized types. :P I have a lot of friends who LOVE cruise ships too.

 you can prolly tell, big cruise ships aren't my favorite way to travel. But hopefully we can make 2013 work if 2012 doesn't pan out.
My wife has always wanted to go on a cruise.....not my first choice. I kind of view this as "Well, let's get it over with....."

I suppose everyone should try it at least once. At least your itinerary looks pretty good. Shouldn't be a whole lot of days "at sea" so you can get a taste of those islands. That was one of my pet peeves about the cruise ship. You had so little time and were constantly worried about making it back to the ship on time so you really didn't get to enjoy the islands you stopped at.

St Lucia is beautiful. I can thank the cruise we went on for convincing us to go and spend a week there. So if you view the cruise as an exploratory trip to see places you might want to spend more time at a later date, that works.

That's my theory at this point......and the fact I was out-voted by the others! :o

   Luckily my husband and I were of the same opinion about the cruise ship. If you've sailed on a small boat and gotten to plan your own day and not trooped around to places like a herd of cattle, you will be sooo much more appreciative of your charter trips. At least that is my opinion. However my sister loves cruise ships and finds our style of vacation (usually a small resort - no highrise - no "all inclusive") to be uncomfortable. Everyone enjoys different things on vacation. And lately, with our timeshare, we are finding we can enjoy a "more civilized" vacation as much as the next person.

Sorry to all the "cruisers" out there...I think those big boats S--K!!! I couldn't wait for my seven long days of feeding at the food trough to end when I did a cruise several years ago!! I do agree it was good for exploring several islands for future trips, but after that... :-? :-? :-?
BUT...since I am sitting on Scott Beach St. John as we speak and this is the last day of our trip... :(
If someone wants to bring their sailboat over and pick me up so I don't have to go home... 8) 8) 8)
I want to go back down and lie beside the sea there.
With a tin cup for a chalice
Fill it up with good red wine...or Rose, as Jimmy said!!!

I miss my dorsal FIN!

Oh...And I forgot to add a good joke that I actually heard on the cruise ship.....
There are two types of people on cruise ships...
Those that eat everything because it's free...
And those that eat everything because they paid for it!!!

Given that I was so "happy" for my first cruise, this thread really makes me want to go now.......... :(

My only requests for the trip were a balcony room so I can escape the "hordes".......and tours of the Cruzan (St. Croix) and Mt. Gay (Barbados) rum facilities! Rum always helps me through life's little "issues"..... :o  :pirate:

I'd be up for that depending on the time. Being single it's hard to go to all the places on my list alone, and I can't think of a better group than BNers! Jimmy on St Barts proved that!

It was! What we need is someone to price this stuff out and give us all an idea of what we'd need to SAVE between now and 2013 - because it WILL be here before we know it. My trip to St Barts was planned out a year in advance! Organizing our thoughts about where, how and when will make it easier.

I think that Ed mentioned that they planned a year ahead and went through a broker who helped with all the details.

Never too soon to start saving up for the fun tickets!

Yes, you really need to book a year in advance to get the boat you want & the week you want. April 2013 might be a possibility for us.

My planned "big ship" cruise this March was called off.....my buddy lost his job. :(

Sorry to hear about your friend's job. Prolly won't be missing that big ship cruise so much right now what with the sinking and norovirus that they've been in the news for.

We're good for April 2013!
