How is Jimmy not in the Rock N Roll HOF?

How is Jimmy not in the Rock N Roll HOF?
This year's class includes Tom Waits, Dr John and Neil Diamond. How is Jimmy not in there? I'm not a musical expert but it seems like Jimmy has had a very successive musical career that's spanned enough decades and genres to be include in the HOF. Has he ever even been part of the nomination process? Sorry if this has been covered before but some of this years nominees are played on Radio Margaritaville enough that it donned on me that JB should be inducted.

Re: How is Jimmy not in the Rock N Roll HOF?
I doubt if the hall of fame considers JB to be rock and roll?
Re: How is Jimmy not in the Rock N Roll HOF?
I think that's where I'm confused. They are a lot of R&B artists in the RnR HOF so it seems like there isn't a clear definition of what RnR really is. For instance, Marvin Gaye is a legend but I don't think of him as a Rock n Roller. I think if you asked most people if Neil Diamond was a Rock n Roll artist they'd laugh. My point is that the HOF has embraced many artists that are on the fringe of mainstream RnR and I think JB could certainly fall in to that group.

One of the criteria they use is the person's influence on rock music. I know people will disagree with me, but what current rock musicians has Buffett influenced? I can't think of any. In my opinion, having a long career and a cult-like following isn't enough. Your mileage may vary.

I'd say millions of Parrotheads constitute a sizeable amount of influence on the music world. Kenny Chesney, several other country artists, Zac Brown, have all been influenced by Jimmy's music (according to THEM). But there's a lot of artists who SHOULD be in the Hall of Fame who aren't. It's just one of those things in life that doesn't make any sense. Kinda like the year Peyton Manning was #2 in the 1997 Heisman trophy award that year ....anybody remember who actually won the durn thing ? Charles Woodson. Yeah. He really went far. And all the singing contest shows, the second-place person becomes more famous than the winner. It all works out in the end.

Perhaps Jimmy will make it into the HOF
when he changes his name to an incomprehensible symbol
and becomes TAFKAJB.

Millions is going a little to far. Thousands is more like it. Only in the past 10 years has it been "somewhat" of a challenge to get a ticket for a show. Back in the 90s heck you could walk up to the booth right before the show and score a decent ticket for face. I do not think Jimmy would be inducted into the R&R HOF ever. He has more of a shot getting inducted into the Country Music HOF. Heck he did spend a great part of his early career in Nashville.
I am still trying to figure a way out for him to get into the R&R HOF, but the point once again his how has he influenced ROCK?
Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.

If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

Re: How is Jimmy not in the Rock N Roll HOF?
Jimmy has a very devout following. I'm not sure that lends itself to his induction in the R&R Hall of Fame, and I'm not sure he cares. Speaking of awards, he said, "With fans like parrotheads, I really don't care." (I've been drinking, and that quote is more or less right.

Re: How is Jimmy not in the Rock N Roll HOF?
I have to agree that Jimmy probably won't make it into the R&R Hall...who cares? There are a number of names NOT there that should be and some that are in that shouldn't be. Who really knows what the criteria is....seems to evolve over the years!
I agree as well Jimmy is a better fit and VERY deserving of the Country Music Hall of Fame. I see his musical influences much stronger on that side of fence. If nothing else, I think he has been a key influence on sucess of "cross-over" country music. Although I like the old country music as much as the new stuff there is no question the more pop-oriented artist sucesses in the last 15-20 years has been good for the popularity of country music today and well as Jimmy's career...or Jimmy's career has been good for the cross-over sucess.

Re: How is Jimmy not in the Rock N Roll HOF?
I've always been a huge Neil Diamond fan. Not so much the current version **
but the sixties and seventies Neil ...... the dude was fantastic live in concert those years
.... not to mention a huge catalog of great songs penned for himself as well as others.
** although his last two albums were great .... both produced I think (?) by the same guy that produced Johnny Cash's last album
