Of course. Same with Wade Boggs & Roger Clemens, right?
Then, in 1921, there was some guy named George something that everyone called "Babe."
(But in fairness, he DID come back to Boston).

4 Giant Pitchers in the All Star Game...

I'm not a Yankee fan but how could CC Sabathia not make the All-Star team? I know he's supposed to pitch next Sunday and starters who pitch the last game before the All-Star break get replaced anyway, but he should be on the team. I guess 11-4 and a 3.05 ERA isn't good enough.
And not to sound like a homer, but if any NL starters pitch next Sunday and have to be replaced, Dillon Gee from the Mets should get some consideration. He started the year in the minor leagues, didn't get called up until a month into the season and is 8-2 with a 3.47 ERA. A rookie with an 8-2 record on a team whose high water mark so far is 1 game over .500.

Maybe they thought six Yankees were enough, Larry.
(Although I doubt Jeter will play, even if he IS activated by then).

I can't believe that Paul Konerko of the White Sox wasn't picked. He's having a monster year so far: .317 BA, 21 HR, 62 RBI.......
Of course, the MLB All Star Game often is more of a popularity contest based on career stats rather than honoring players that are having a particularly good current season. I guess there's no perfect selection process......

Pretty good stuff for NL fans:

"Briefly: Cain and Hamels will need to be replaced if they pitch Sunday, as expected. Hamels' spot would go to the sixth-place starter on the players' ballot, Pittsburgh's Kevin Correia, who frolicked in the Bochy household as a teenager as a friend of Bochy's son. ... Lincecum finished seventh in the players' vote. ... Cain did not pitch in his other All-Star Game after taking a hard comebacker in his final first-half start. ... Vogelsong might get a shot to take the mound. "He's deserving. Why not?" Bochy said. "He gave us a shot in the arm. He helped save us. He's a big reason we're in first place. No. 2, he's a great story, the perseverance he's shown in this game, being in Japan for five years, the minor leagues, the roller coaster he's been on."

Has anyone noticed that the Pittsburgh Pirates are 3 games over .500????? They are quietly making some nice strides this season.
I've joked for years that all of my friends and family that are die-hard Steelers fans don't seem to share the same "enthusiasm" for the Bucs.......wonder if I'll start to see Pirate fans suddenly appear from their ranks?????
Everybody loves a winner......

Lincecum's a great pitcher but I don't care if he finished 7th in the players' vote. He's pitching for a first place team and right now he has a losing record. If any of the NL starters have to be replaced, there's no way he should be one of the replacements.

I wasn't following baseball much when Boggs and Clemens left. But knowing what I know now, good riddance to Clemens

Just thought some may enjoy Bochy's comments. The Lincecum spot is split in SF too. Today's SF Chronicle had a story the Giants offence is the WORST it's been since 1902; "For the first time since 1902, the Giants have failed to score more than six runs in 38 straight home games (their entire 2011 home schedule to date). Those '02 Giants, the only other outfit with a streak like that in franchise history, finished 53 1/2 games out of first place.
Legendary Christy Mathewson, who was 21 at the start of that year, sported a 1.14 WHIP (not that he knew it) and 2.12 ERA but went 14-17. Madison Bumgarner, take note."

WHY do the Yankees have to be in the same division as the Rays?
(On the PLUS side-Derek Jeter has a double so far tonight, putting him two hits shy of 3000).

The way the Yankees are playing the Red Sox this year, you WANT them in the same division.
(I don't, but you do).

Good point, and they are a 1/2 game on top of the Yanks. Since he will reach 3000, when do you think he will call it a career?

He has 2 more years on his contract after this year at, I think, $15 million per. If it were me, I'd call it quits after those 2 more years and not a day sooner. That's a lot of green to leave on the table if he walks away before the end of the contract.

At the end of his current contract in 2013. He has nothing to prove to anybody.

Derek Jeter got his 3000th hit this afternoon. He's only the second player to hit a home run for his 3000th, the other one was Wade Boggs.

Congratulations to Mr. Derek Jeter-one hell of a ballplayer, a classy guy and a credit to the game. He makes me proud to be a Yankee fan.
