If the Brewers use him exclusively as a set up man, I wonder if the union will file a grievance? There's a clause in his contract that if he finishes 55 games - finishes, not saves - an option for $17.5 million for next year kicks in. He was on pace to finish over 60 games, I think he had 32 or 33 already, so the union could claim the Mets traded him to a team that didn't need a closer to avoid having to pay all that money next year.

It's frustrating as hell, isn't it.
At least the Orioles have been to the world series six times in my lifetime (and won it three times)
The last time the Cubs were in the world series was six years before I was born. (And I'll be 60 in December). The last time the Cubs WON the world series was when my grandmother was 7 months old. (She died in 1998 at age 91).
Since I've been alive, the Cubs record in playoff games is 9-21.

Again, I say, I'm thrilled that I drink.

Toronto is teeming with Yankee fans this weekend. Bautista's out for a couple of days after jamming his ankle, that won't help the Jays chances. :-?

And A-Rod is out for 4-6 weeks. So nothing is garunteed for anybody.

With Boros just signed on as his agent, that would be a concern. However, today KRod waived the vesting option, turned it into a mutual option for the same $17.5 mil, in exchange for a very small (500k) increase on the buyout. Now there are no concerns about appearances...Roenicke can use whoever he feels is his best option on a daily basis.

I was going to post something about my frustrations at the Orioles getting demolished twice last night at Yankee Stadium, but then I re-read the thread title: 2011 Major League baseball and realized.......the O's haven't been a major league team in years. [smilie=hello.gif]

Never mind....... [smilie=cwl.gif]

DENVER, CO - The following statement from the Colorado Rockies Baseball Club is in regards to right-handed pitcher Juan Nicasio who left last night's game after being struck in the head by a batted ball.

Juan Nicasio is resting comfortably at a Denver hospital following surgery early this morning to stabilize a fracture to the C-1 vertebrae in his neck. Juan will remain hospitalized as he recovers from the surgery.

Been a Phillies fan all my life, and it just kind of feels like they can't do anything wrong right now. Offense has been pretty lethargic most of the year, but they always seem to score just enough to win. Halladay, Lee, Hamels, and now Worley compete amongst themselves to outdo the other guys. Hamels just missed a shutout (solo HR with 2 out in the 9th) and was upset with himself because Lee thru a shutout. :)
