We're spending way too much time discussing a team that didn't even make the playoffs.

wiscoleeds wrote:Those poor Red Sox...how did the Rays manage to beat them out? And when I mentioned about buying a World Series...it's not just free agents but the ability to retain your own players.
The Yankees/Red Sox they are both the same but one franchise just happens to be far more successful at buying Championships than the other.
And to suggest that the luxury tax levels the playing field...pure hogwash.

As a baseball fan, Tampa/Milwaukee would be pretty neat. But you're right, the network execs would be pulling out their hair.

I don't see the NY pitching staff winning three games in any series. And I like Tampa Bay in five games. No real rooting interest in the NL, other than I'm glad to see the D-Backs and Kirk Gibson take the division.

Playoff rosters set, kinda surprised to see Brad Penny made the cut for Detroit. No Carlos Guillen, so they'll be playing mix & match at second base.

I hoping for Tigers vs Phillies or Cards . . . .

Yankees? If they never win another playoff game that's good enuff for me.
Brewers? I have hard feeling for the Brewers cuz of Bud Selig (google "Seattle Pilots")
Rays? Their fans don't deserve the playoffs. Did you see all the empty seats for their last game?
Texas? Eh, who cares?
D'backs? Ditto.

I have no rooting interest so I just hope we get some good, competitive games.

I wonder if either the Tigers or Yankees will adjust their rotations and bring Verlander and Sabathia back early after the rainout tonight?

I gotta think they'll be back out earlier than scheduled, maybe Monday. Tonight was like throwing in between starts. CC was going Tuesday anyway, maybe this will set up a rematch with Verlander on Monday. It'll be interesting to see how each manager handles it.

I was kind of surprised when I heard the game was rained out. I was in NYC (Manhattan, not the Bronx) and there wasn't a drop of rain. I got home to LI about 9:15 and the streets were wet but it wasn't raining. Right now, just after 11:00, it still isn't raining in my neighborhood.

I couldn't believe that the umpires continued play as long as they did in that downpour Friday night........ :o

I know it's a short season now and this year's weather especially in the Northeast has been awful, but player safety must remain first & foremost. Puddles of water in front of home plate and watching Sabathia's landing foot slipping after each pitch was ridiculous. Cal Ripken is an analyst on the TBS playoff broadcasts and he blasted the umps for the same reason.

This is like watching Sandy Koufax pitch against the Yankees in the 1963 World Series. :(

He's pretty amazing, isn't he? I just LOVE to watch him pitch :D

I sure don't enjoy watching him pitch.
But the Tigers could've used anybody to pitch tonight's game, and it wouldn't have mattered. C.C. Sabathia is a great April-August pitcher. But he's fat, out of shape, and, by September, he's extremely tired.
It shows in his delivery.
Oh well, we may very well have seen the last of him until next season. I sure hope he's in better shape then.

I love Derek Jeter and all he's done for the Yankees over the years, but the time has come to bat him 7th or 8th. Jeez, Louise!
