Delmon Young must not have been wearing one. He just went out with a pain in his side.

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball
I'll preface this by saying I'm a HUGE lifelong Yankees fan. That being said, on to the criticism.
Our "Ace", Sabathia, is terribly out of shape. He got his 19th win on September 4th, and finished the season with....you guessed it....19 wins. He completely ran out of gas. He pitched in the division series and was outmatched by Verlander (no shame there), but also gave up the winning run in game 5. That being said, they don't sniff the playoffs without him. Still.......an occasional salad might benefit him as far as longevity and cardio.
On the other hand, if you watched them all year (as I did), you would realize they relied WAY too much on the 3 run HR and not nearly enough on the clutch base hit. HR's don't come easy in the playoffs, and you need serious starting pitching. The Yanks were 2 deep all year (Sabathia and Nova...who was a rookie). They just weren't made for the playoffs.
Oh well. Congrats to Detroit. They were the better team.

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball
Once again the playoffs prove that regular season records & stats don't mean a thing!
While I'm a baseball fan I don't participate in fantasy leagues. I understand their appeal to some, but friends who spout off all of those many ratios, averages, etc. I always say this: The only stat that matters is the final score!

Rodriguez is always an easy target, but Texeira was invisible in this series, Martin hit under .200 and Swisher hit about .230. Jeter didn't come through like he usually does in the playoffs and Granderson wasn't nearly as productive offensively as he was in the regular season. The loss in the series was a team effort.

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball
Other than game 4, during this series, the offense was adequate at best. The way they played in this division series, they could play like that against some teams and win every time. Unfortunately, the Tigers aren't one of those teams. (Neither are the Rays).LIPH wrote:Rodriguez is always an easy target, but Texeira was invisible in this series, Martin hit under .200 and Swisher hit about .230. The Tigers scored exactly THREE runs last night. When your opponent is held to three runs, it should be a slam dunk for any offense that's worth it's weight.
A-Rod hasn't been the same since his knee surgery, Jeter, sadly, has seen his better days, and the others just can't seem to get in synch.
Fortunately for me, I had a family emergency last night and didn't have to watch that game.

A-Rod is an easy target cuz he puts himself out in front of everyone else and wears that big bulls-eye . . . .

Posada , Gardner and Cano where 3 players that played well...all hit over .400 for the series....the next highest average was Jeter at .250 and the rest of the team went down from there. I think one stat i heard on Granderson was, in 12 or 14 at bats, he struckout something like 8 times.LIPH wrote:Rodriguez is always an easy target, but Texeira was invisible in this series, Martin hit under .200 and Swisher hit about .230.
