Buffett and America's cup

Post by regalis »

Is it me or would be it perfect to have Jimmy play at the America's cup coming up in a few years here in San Francisco? I have no idea how to make this happen so advise would be appreciated.

I like the idea.

I notice Jimmy didn't play Take It Back while in Australia. [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif]

Well lets hope that Larry Ellison or Russell Coutts are Buffett fans. At least we have the dates announced for the LV Cup and the Americas Cup, and I hope I can see some of it live.

I've been a sailor for 27 years. I've been a Buffett fan for 27 years as well. There was a time when I followed the America's Cup. The America's Cup began as a friendly competition between nations. And there was a time when mariners sailed for their countries. The problem with the America's Cup today, in my opinion, is that sailors no longer sail for their nations. They're just a bunch of hired guns. I couldn't care less about the oldest trophy in sports, and I couldn't care less whether Jimmy performs for it. It's his call. Personally, I want nothing to do with it.

Thanks for posting this. It's actually an interesting topic.

I'm kinda there with you. Australia II was incredible....the '87 take-back was unreal. (the first one I watched!!) Then it all went to #ell. Wasn't a big fan of the IACC boats. Loved the 12-metres. Beautiful boats.

Also as a sailor, I agree with you and Capn Bobby......the current AC is a mere shell of itself. :(

I still can't help but stop and watch the 12 meter fleet under sail on Narragansett Bay when we visit Newport, RI each fall......so glad these lovely yachts have been preserved. :pirate:
