and go... :D

i have three staples in my cabinet at all times...

1. buffalo trace - my favorite "regular" bourbon. so freakin good. most people my age (25) know nothing about it...shoot, most people my age are still stuck on beer and jager. this is by far my go-to for sipping several times a week.

2. woodford reserve - good. a nice, full bourbon to sip on once a week or so. plus, i love the fact you can order small labels from their website for free. several bottles i have kept have some buffett quotes on them.

3. 1792 - not my type at all. feels like something is lacking. only reason i keep a bottle around is because it's a great one to pour for anyone who has never had bourbon before. really smooth, no bite, but not strong enough for me.

Gotta stick with my Maker's Mark.

I see that red wax behind the bar and all the other bottles fade into the shadows.

Not been a "bourbon guy", but many of my friends are in to it......might have to put the rum and tequila on hold and give this stuff a try! :pirate:

Right there with you. Any red wax behind the bar puts an instant smile on my face.

Have you tried the Maker's 46 yet? I love the original Maker's, but the 46 is a very nice change of pace. Definitely worth a try.

One of my favorite after dinner sweets is Vanilla ice cream covered with (powdered) drinking chocholate with a splash of bourbon,

Buffalo Trace is fantastic. I am more of a Scotch guy - Boston snob and all - but Buffalo Trace is my go to bourbon. Got a bottle at my bar right now. Perhaps I will pour myself a tall glass as I roast in the hot tub later. Life is grand, isn't it?

I do agree that Buffalo Trace is very good, especially if you can get the single barrel version. One of my friends owns a liquor store and buys barrels before they are mixed.

Eagle Reserve Rare and Bulleit are quite tasty as well.

If you just want a little sweet taste, Sweet Lucy is a low priced hidden gem. Much the same as when I started drinking Woodford Reserve back when it was about $15 for a fifth.

If you have never checked it out, The Bourbon Review is a very nice read.

Have to bring a bottle of Maker's to Tampa to share. :)

Blanton's, if you can find it. Pappy Van Winkle, especially their 23 year old, but be prepared to pay through the nose. (The price difference between their 20 and their 23 is huge.) A lot of the bourbons now are really controlled by only 4 or 5 distillers. One distiller will have several different labels out, especially confusing because the labels in many cases are brands that were originally independent but since bought up by other companies. You should do a little internet research. Doesn't mean what they're making isn't good; just let's you know who's behind them.

All that being said? Yeah, Maker's Mark.

I consider myself to be more of a rum sipper these days but I did take full advantage of the "local culture" living in Louisville a few years back.

I tried the best I could find back then...
Eagle Rare
Blanton's
Buffalo Trace
Four Roses
Elijah Craig (12 year)
Woodford

but I kept ending up on that same little tour down in Loretto, KY where they let you dip your own bottle in that trademark red wax :)
add one more vote for Maker's!
