That was 2 years ago. They should have made that statement last year.
That was 2 years ago? Sheesh. Time flies I guess.

I've emailed Tommy Griffiths, the morning DJ at BIG 100.3 to see what he's heard. They promote alot of shows at Jiffy Lube as well.

This is probably the worst thing I can say around here, but is tailgating (drinking) really THAT important at a concert? I understand knowing the policy in advance so you don't bring all kinds of alcohol for nothing, but sometimes I really get the vibe that people simply wouldn't go if they couldn't tailgate. I go for the fun and the music, if there's a few drinks in there too, then great. Honestly though, it would be just as fun for me, if not more fun, if so many people weren't being stupid. I can have a great time without a drop of alcohol.

Drinking isn't all encompassing the tailgate scene. What about seeing and catching up with friends? Sharing a meal? Playing music? Having the CR sing at said party. If they open the gates at 4 or 5, we'll barely be saying hello. How are they going to stop the after parties? It's not like you just get in your car a drive off the lots. We were at the concert when it was 104 degrees and we drank water.......we still partied with friends, sweated and had a blast.
Just thinking too....... :D

Well said...... [smilie=coolup.gif]

Like others, at this point in my life I choose not to get drunk at a Buffett concert or elsewhere. Been there, done that, got that t-shirt.......

The root of this issue is very simply how is "tailgating" being defined [smilie=huh-ani.gif]

I couldn't agree more with your statement. It is rare that we have the totally drunk, annoying people set up around us tailgating. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they are out there, but for the most part I have seen people there that keep themselves in track. I also remember the concert you are speaking of ( 104 degrees at the Party at the End of the World tour), and myself and our whole crew didn't drink anything but bottled water. We still had a great time, and met up with friends we haven't seen since the last year. The tailgating is much more than just the drinking aspect of it. Merriweather Post didn't understand that, and apparently Jiffy Lube won't either. If this does continue to hold true, Bristow may get one more year of Buffett, and he will probably move on, as he did from Merriweather. When 1/2 of your concert videos revolve around the phlock tailgating, you will move on to keep that trend up. Just my thoughts

But the real question is: Did you DATE that t-shirt??? [smilie=asa.gif]

Yes, definition of "tailgating"... I have been to tailgates sans alcohol and the most important part was being able to see friends and spend time with them. For me, I only get to see most of my Buffett phamily once a year. I won't even get that this year. :( And for those of you going to the show, if they are able to enforce a no tailgating policy then that means either coming up with some other preshow gathering that's not in The Lube parking lot or having minimal time to, as Linda noted, barely say hello. I mean, I think we ALL could do without Backstreets pink drinks (luv ya, brotha! u know it!)

Of course, I'm still thinking "bring your stuff and see what happens" because to me, the worst they could say is "No" or tell you to put it away or pour it out. And then you comply because it's likely whoever is telling you no is enforcement and not the creator of the policy. And then later when you are home, you get out your poison pen and write a nastygram to The Lube.

I believe the "no tailgating," if enforced, relates to the alcohol consumption. I can't see anyone going around making people put out their grills.

For all we know, the policy being printed on their ticket is simply their way of trying to cover their butts should another accident/death occur.

While not "tailgating" per se, I can tell you that EVERY year in Pittsburgh Live Nation says the lots won't open until 3 and EVERY year they end up opening around 12-1. I'm cautiously optimistic that all of this is just legal talk to avoid liability but I guess we'll find out during some of these late spring/early summer Country shows at Nissan.

When this first came out, I called the Lube and asked them about the parking because I had purchased the VIP parking again this year. They told me that the lots will not open until 1-2 hours prior to the concert gates opening, which would mean 4:00-5:00. So aparently they will cut out the tailgating by not opening the lots to the venue. That's the way I read into it.

I agree that this would be the only logical way to enforce "no tailgating"......but the one road access to the site will be a nightmare with all those cars trying to get in 1-2 hours before the venue gates open at 6 pm. Another senseless aggravation......

If alcohol consumption is the primary issue (and most likely it is and is a result of that tragic death a while back), then enforce "no alcohol" as the signs in the parking lot have always said. But let the fans simply enjoy the day and the company of friends.......it's such a huge part of any Buffett concert.

1-2 hours prior to show gate opening would everyone get into the lot in time for the show ? i know it takes longer than that to get out

From one Bristow vet to another...the venue parking staff and PWC police are continually getting better, especially at getting folks out of there. There were plenty of years where we didn't bother trying to leave until 1AM, but last year, our whole crew was back on the bus by 11:15 and we were at our neighborhood bar 20 miles away before midnight.
It is unrealistic for them to expect to get everyone in there if they're not opening the lots until 4 or 5 o'clock. We normally head over around 2 and Wellington Road is already jammed, just imagine the backflow on all the roads around there if they wait that late to open.
And if I can count, I believe this my 100th post. A milestone!

Well....thinking along those lines........if we spread the word the gates are open at 1:00 PM and say about.......1000 cars show up and block the roads.........then maybe said gates will open.......just saying........ :pirate:

I had my friend ask her friend (who got us into the pre-show party and backstage look a couple years ago) if he heard anything about "no tailgating"
most venues are instituting "no tailgating" policies, even Philly. He said you can sit and eat in your car, but if you put up a canopy or even set out a lawn chair, you could get a ticket or even thrown out.
So there you go. If tailgating is the canopies, grills, tables, etc then standing around, walking around, etc shouldn't be an issue.

Let's all move to Frisco, TX, where they open the lot at 9 a.m......FRIDAY! There will be a full size above ground pool there this year...
