Buffett on Jazz Fest poster

Post by springparrot »

http://www.wwltv.com/news/local/Jazz-Fe ... 22844.html

The poster features a young Buffett playing the guitar on a French Quarter street corner.

“Garland literally took pages from Buffett’s autobiography and imagined what it would have been like to meet the young musician as he played on the streets of New Orleans in 1967,” according to an email from Art4Now, and ProCreations Publishing, the company which distributes the posters.

Buffett came to New Orleans from Mississippi as a young student, and fell in love with the French Quarter of the 1960s, particularly the folk music scene here.

Love......love.......love it!

Our friends bought the $895 signed canvas one. We got the least expensive and paid the Boston College tuition.......it's way too cool not to have.........besides we're going! :D
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

Like the poster, but I've rarely seen Jimmy in an aloha shirt -- especially in his younger years. That's OK, I'm open to the artist's interpretation. :D

That was my first reaction. 1967? Jeans and an aloha shirt? I don't think so.

The poster is printed then parts of it are touched up by the artist.

Glad they chose to honor Jimmy on the poster this year, but I wish they'd chosen a better artist.
There's just too many things really off about that image of Jimmy. Can't buy it, it'd bug me too much to look at. :-?
I do like the rendering of his head & face & the townhouse in the background, but the Hawaiian shirt and the way he's standing -especially the right (bent) leg that's resting on the levitating newspapers! LOL

Oh well, as I said, glad to see Jimmy honored. :)
Some people never find it, some only pretend

Hmm ok... I don't think you know who Garland Robinette is. If he was good enough to paint the Popethen he is good enough for this. His art is pretty dang good. http://www.robinettestudios.com/historic.html

Yep, cool poster but the Hawaiian shirt aspect cheapens it. It's more a part of Buffett's current image.

He hasn't always performed barefooted either has he? Back in his early days I suspect it would have been much more likely to see him in cowboy boots than barefooted or wearing sandals/flip-flops.

I love the poster! I would love to get the $500 one signed by the artist and Jimmy. However, I think I will take that money and put it into windsurfing or the boat fund. So, I think I'll order the $70 version because, as I said, I really like it.

PS I'm not bothered by the tropical shirt because the point of that was not to capture the way Jimmy was in the late 1960s. The point of the shirt was to add something that captures the direction his music would take.
