Buffett Book
What is your favorite Buffett book, and why? So far, Jimmy has written, let's see if I can do this, "Tales from Margaritaville," "Joe Merchant," "A Pirate Looks at Fifty," "A Salty Piece of Land," "Swine Not?" "Trouble Dolls," and "Jolly Mon." (If I've left anything out, please add it.) My favorite, by far, is "Swine Not?" I found it absolutely heart warming, and I found myself rooting for the pig, Rumpy. So, what is your favorite Buffett book, and why?

Re: Buffett Book
For me it's "Joe Merchant".......
I love mysteries and this one had me guessing right up to the end. It was Jimmy's best literary effort and was rumored for a while that a movie was to be made based on the book. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, that never happened.......

Joe Merchant. Great adventure and wish they'd make a movie about it.

Re: Buffett Book
I've read 4 of them - Tales From Margaritaville, Where Is Joe Merchant, A Pirate Looks At Fifty and A Salty Piece Of Land. Tales From Margaritaville was my favorite with Where Is Joe Merchant a close second. I thought A Salty Piece Of Land was badly in need of an editor, it's the only one of the 4 I've never picked up again.

Re: Buffett Book
I'm reading Swine Not right now, and I love it because it requires the kid in me to read the book. It is a fun book .
A Pirate Looks At Fifty is my first favorite. I've read it three times, and I will read it again before this year is over.
Joe Merchant surprised me. When I started reading it I did not think I would like it, but I became glued to it and couldn't put it down.

Re: Buffett Book
Joe Merchant is good.
But I highly recommend "A Pirate Looks at 90: How the 2nd 50 shows at Greats Woods were even better then the 1st 50" . . . scheduled publishing date June 25th, 2041. There is rumored to be a short forward about how New Englanders never complain about the snow or parking lot opening times. It is a must read. Pre-order your copy today.

Re: Buffett Book
I've read 'em all... well, kinda. Couldn't finish "Swine Not." The revolving character perspectives messed with me somehow.
Fave has to be "A Pirate Looks at Fifty." I really enjoyed the first half, especially, with the stories and observations on life in general. The second half read more like a travelogue to me (trip up the Amazon, etc.) The best observation, though, was near the beginning..... What are you going to do with your life? LIVE AN INTERESTING ONE. (oh yeah!
)
Also liked "Tales from Margaritaville" a lot, although not till I read it the second and third times. Some of the stories are a little... odd... to say the least. LOL. Now, though... I catch all the references and enjoy it much more.
"Joe Merchant" was okay. Fun read, but for me, somewhat un-memorable.
"A Salty Piece of Land" felt like a bunch of interesting stories, all thrown in as chapters with a very loose narrative tying it all together. Still enjoyable, though.
The kid books (Jolly Mon, Trouble Dolls) are nice kid books. 'bout all.
Bottom line is that I really look forward to anything new Jimmy writes and publishes. Hope something new comes our way soon!

Re: Buffett Book
I read 'Tales from Margaritaville' and quite liked it.
Currently reading 'A Pirates Look At Fifty' and prefer it.
Still have 'Where Is Joe Merchant' lying on my bedside table, looking forward to another good read.
SO is currently reading the 'Tales from Margaritaville' in german which she found in an obscure german online second hand bookstore, together with 'Cuba Libre' (german title of 'Where Is Joe Merchant')
Comment so far to Margaritaville: "You can read this crazy stuff in english?" But it seems she enjoys it, not being a fast reader she nearly finished the book.
Hope to get the rest of his book on my trip to the USA.

Re: Buffett Book
Joe Merchant! I did love the other night when my 7 year old broke out Jolly Mon and read it to me. And Pirate looks at 50 was good too. It helped that I was in a hammock in Caye Caulker just outside of Ambergris Caye when I was reading that part. Never even tried Swine Not because it didn't sound interesting but I guess I will give it a read since others seem to enjoy it.
I think I'll take my shoes off and go walking

I like the funny sounds of parrots squawking
I think I hear a hammock calling me

Re: Buffett Book
I haven't read them in a while, but one highlight from my teaching career came last year when a group of kids created a play based on Jolly Mon. They were so excited and did very well with the recreation! Being on the far side of the world, it was cool to see these kiwis engaging with a text from Bubba!
