there aren't that many corners down there, mostly curves. Guys laying out Cinci plattes followed the river, rather than imposing order thru ordinal plotting

technically, they may have used ordinal plotting to get the layout they got; overlaying the area north of the river with a simple grid along the cardinal points, and then adding another variable (preference) as to whether to remain on a true compass line (N/S or E/W) or break away from it to get to the next easy point on a line using elevation and contouring based on cost and available technology.

at least that makes it sound a lot more scientific than, "hey, to heck with digging out part of the hillside, just go around it. They can link up to it later."

yes the phlocking should be centered around water. And we will need some sand and beach music. oh and some of those little umbrellas for our drinks.
