WTF?!! I was assuming that since JB agreed to play here, the venue had relaxed it's tailgating policy. We have a pretty good size group of people going, some only to tailgate. C' mon VB! Lets not look like total Jacka$$es, but show everybody that we know how to have a good time!

Not exactly sure how this argument benefits the venue in any way
that would convince them to "relax their tailgating policies".

Good point! My brother and sister-in-law had tried for tickets and got shut out, but still wanted to go and try to pick up tickets at the venue. My husband comes to the concerts to be the designated driver and to cook - he's not a big concert fan.

Was just on the Live Nation site and there are still reserved seats available, as well as VIP parking.

Recently moved to the area and was excited to see a show so close to my house, but the few posts about tailgating are scaring me a bit. What’s the deal with parking and tailgating at VB/ Farm bureau Live? I am use to Cincy, Pittsburgh and Bristow which are 8 to 12 hour tailgates. Some good news please!

I'm with you! I'll be tailgating no matter what. Parrotheads ALWAYS find a way!

Is there any more news on the tailgating front?

Either way I'll make it work!

I have not heard anything. At least it does not specifically say "no tailgating" on the ticket like the Bristow show at Jiffy lube live.

I emailed the Mayor of the City of Va. Beach about tailgating at the JB concert.... this is the reply from his office:

Our City Code prohibits a person from having an open container of alcohol (bottle, cup, etc.) in public places. “Public places” include the parking lot of the Amphitheatre. Last December, City Council amended the City Code to make an exception for “parking areas designed . . . for use by persons attending a collegiate or professional sporting exhibition or event on the day of such exhibition or event.” The ordinance requires that a facility operator seeking such designation apply for the designation and obtain required permits from the Virginia ABC Board. A concert is not considered a sporting event, therefore, having an open container of alcohol in the parking lot of the Amphitheatre before or after a concert would be illegal. These restrictions have been in place since the opening of the Amphitheatre.

So, only a privileged few get to tailgate at the amphitheatre. I also asked (in a reply email) what time the gates would open and I got no response.

Huh, I guess a lot of people will be tailgating at home and driving to the show, which is much safer. Makes no sense to me. I guess my group will have to draw straws for DD. Hopefully they open the gates early enough so half the crowd does not miss the first set.

Hello fellow Buffett followers,
I have just read through the recent postings and am a little disappointed...but still up for the trip. We will be coming in for the concert from Michigan and would like to get some local info. We will be coming in in a small 24ft Class C RV and need suggestions on a place to camp or RV resort. Does anyone know if an RV is allowed in the venue parking lot? Some places allow...some don't. We usually do not pull a car, but can if needed. I had high hopes for a new place to see Jimmy, I hope there is better news coming of a local place to party before the concert, but we will still probably go to a pre-concert and see how the tailgating goes. We also are very familiar with going to Pittsburgh, Bristow, Pine Knob, in Michigan, Wisconsin (which was the best party we have ever been to, but not very friendly to RVs - they wanted an extra $100+ to bring in an RV to the parking lot...very disappointing since we did not pull a car at the time). We try to travel to new venues in our new RV...meeting all sorts of very wonderful and friendly parrotheads. Hope to hear from some locals who can give us good advise and hope to meet some at the concert.
Fins Up
Debe & Tim

Any news on the time the gates will open?

As for RV parks, I wish I could help. May want to try First Landing State Park. But other than that I do not know of any in the area.

Thanks for the info. I think people are going to miss some of the show with the gates opening so late. I plan on leaving to get into the line around 3. Maybe earlier.

Any caravans happening?

I'm thinking around 3 as well. There are several groups of us coming from downtown Norfolk. Maybe if we all show up, they'll let us in.

An early opening due to traffic would be ideal. We will also be leaving the Norfolk area around three, but we would be up for pre-concert stuff if there are events going on.

21 days...

I talked with the amphitheater box office today. Gates open at 4:30, as mentioned in a previous post. You will be allowed to bring food, tents, grills, etc. but no alcohol. Your tent setup must be contained within your own parking space from the back of your vehicle. Grilling (no large flames) will be monitored by the Va. Beach Police. That's the latest.

Here is the phone no. if you want to clarify anything: 757-368-3000.

At least that's more info that I've gotten before from them. :P
