Cars go vroom vroom...

Post by buffettbride »

I might be buying a car soon. Not sure if new or used. Definitely under $30k. Preferably in the $15-$25k department. I have no brand loyalty.

Must have 4 doors, A/C, and not be a truck or SUV. (Could be an SAV)

What would you get?

By the overwhelming sentiment on the board today, I wouldn't recommend a Toyota.

I've been a Chevy guy for years. Not on purpose either. No brand loyalty here. Current ride is the Malibu and I really like it.
Dumb and drunk as I was, you know I would do it all again.

We have a Toyta Tacoma already. Not loving what Toyota is currently offering. Not loving Toyota in general right now.

Currently driving a PT Cruiser convertible. Loads of fun but not a good bad weather car. Always loved my VWs...had a Jetta and then a Cabrio, they were both great.

Are you going for practicality? Size?
You only have two options - havin' fun or freakin' out...

I wouldn't buy a VW anything or a PT Cruiser. We can rule out any kind of Outback wagon, also. I think they are cute but every person I drive behind who owns one is a total tool.

It's gotta do winter, but doesn't need 4wd necessarily. Not really thinking I want to go minivan, although the kids seem to think I could rock a van pretty well. My insides are screaming, "NEEEEVVVAAAAHHHHHH" though.

And I think I want to stick with a V6. My truck has one and I'm not sure I could go back to a 4 cylinder. I will if I have to for price/gas reasons, but I looooove having a V6.

Although, we haven't ruled out a new Cherokee Laredo. More than we want to spend, but I've always liked them.

I guess it's just the Grand Cherokee now. I dunno. It's the one in the commercial with Eminem playing.

I have an Infiniti G20 and I think it's a really good car but I don't think they make it anymore.

We have a Cherokee (2008) and it has been a great vehicle. Never use the 4W drive, but just had to have it. Our dealership here is what SOLD us on that particular BUY.

. . . time to wake up. This car is not for you. Your kids are going to own it in just a few years. Buy one that you will trust them in and just enjoy it for a short time before they get their hands on it.
I recommend a Ford 4cyl sedan, like an early model Fusion (or Focus). No real serious bugs, and later models sold well. Very safe.

Edited for spelling and to add "or Focus"

Lots of people say "no mini van - ever". Then half of them buy one. I was against it at first. I like it now. I don't love because, well, if I did, I'd have to turn in my testicles but it really is a great car. I don't mind driving it. You can drive around a bunch of kids and don't have to worry about trying to squish them into the back seat. You can haul a ton of stuff. I've moved couches, a reclining easy chair, wood, the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, mulch, etc. The built in DVD player is great and key for traveling. We have a Honda Odyssey.

You may be able to get one for under $30K, I dunno. We paid mid-30's for ours.
Twenty degrees and the hockey games on...

That's what I was saying, and then I drove across country in one. [smilie=battingeyes.gif] [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

I do miss my mini van. :)

I had forgotten about those. The Fusion was the only Ford my dad ever owned before he died (he was a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep guy through and through).

And you're right--it's probably the vehicle that my daughter and son will drive.
