What would you suggest for a new fan??
I know this is posted somewhere but I'm at work and don't have time to look for it.
I have a friend whose only exposure to JB is the yellow album and he wants a suggestion for a new purchase. Which CD would say to get? My initiation was "Tues, Thurs & Sat" but I fear that has too many standards.
Ideas?

If you want it all go with "Boats, Beaches, Bars & Ballads" Got it all..... However, a couple of my favorite live shows is "Jimmy Buffett Live in Anguilla, and Jimmy Buffett Live in Hawaii..." Really good performances with all the music that makes us love Jimmy....Good Quality and Great Shows including the extra DVD to watch part of the concert..... My best sugestion to you.... Hope this works or at least helps out... Any of these is great for a newby.... However, Live in Anguilla has a little more spark to take a newby over the edge to be a Parrothead, especially the DVD...... ![thatworks [smilie=thatworks.gif]](./images/smilies/thatworks.gif)

Thanks so much! I kind of was leaning towards something live because you get a real sense of the entire JB experience.

Wrigley is another good one---both the CD and the DVD.

Not Buffet Hotel, it blows. After hearing most of the songs live before the album came out, it's the only one I didn't buy.

Yeah, that would never be on the top of any of my lists either Larry.
Though I do LOVE "Rhumba Man"

Yes, when Jimmy finally made it after A1A, White Sport Coat, and Living and Dying, Havana Daydreamin, Rancho Deluxe, HCJ, and DTEBeachBumJim wrote:This is the one I was turned on to many moons ago by my older sister when i was 18 or so... . I like to always remember Jimmy from his YOU HAD TO BE THERE days...think that is the best live album to know where Jimmy kinda came from.
Re: What would you suggest for a new fan??
I was a new fan in 1994 and Jimmy's BALLADS is the one CD that really hit home with me the most...and One Particular Harbour also.

Re: What would you suggest for a new fan??
Agree with that one...many a Friday evening (back ..what 15 years ago) when we put the kids to bed....have a few shots and catch up with what's happening in "our world"....listening to Feeding Frenzy. I think that was one of the first COMPACT DISCS we had. It was either that or Zep's Physical Graffitti.changingchannels wrote:You really can't go wrong with any of these:

Our favorite CD is Welcome To Margaritaville. I know Target carries it. This is a two CD set and it is in our car and playing whenever we are driving. We have all the others but REALLY LOVE this album.

Re: What would you suggest for a new fan??
Certainly the dvd from Live in Anguilla is awesome - it pretty much sums up the whole Buffett experience - sit down on a weekend with a couple of hours to spare in front of the big screen, a couple of dozen cervezas and some margaritas and turn up the volume. The Wrigley Field cd didn't do it as much for me... just my opinion.
My first Buffett album was Songs you Know By Heart - Jimmy Buffett's Greatest Hits - it is awesome. I especially like Changes in Lattitudes Changes in Attitudes as well - like was said, not a bad song on it.
My 2 cents

Re: What would you suggest for a new fan??
That's exactly the one I would pick. Most of the classics, and the best versions he's ever recorded of Tin Cup, Hurricane Season and Love & Luck (IMHO). I'm guessing a "new fan" might not be as interested in some of the deep tracks that the rest of us are.ScarletB wrote:I know this is posted somewhere but I'm at work and don't have time to look for it.
