Portland, OR in June - what to do?

Post by txaggirl91 »

I'm heading to Portland the first week of June. I will have all Tuesday to sightsee, etc. Any recommendations and where to go?

If you have a car, drive out to Seaside. Rose Gardens. There's a waterfall...forget the name. Powell's Books. Have fun!

The first week of June is the Rose Festival, and I think the Navy Ships arrive on that Tuesday.

Be sure to hit Rogue Brewery in the Pearl District or Deschuttes Brewery if you want a "nicer' environment.

You didn't mention where you are from... I ask because the Beach/Seaside - Cannon Beach is only an hour away -- but if you live on a coast, you may want to skip it. Also, Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge is only 45 minutes away -- pretty drive and you can keep going to Hood River and watch the crazy wind surfers and get a beer at Full Sail Brewery. There is year-round skiiing on Mt. Hood -- Timberline Lodge is an hour away and they have a brewery. Also, we are known for our Pinot Noir wines and our "wine country" is 45 minutes away too.

In town, hit the Rose Gardes in Washington Park as the Roses will be at their prime. You can take the Max/Lightrail there from downtown. Also, be sure to hit Voo Doo Donuts... trust me everyone must go there once. Jakes is the place for salmon, Henry's Tavern across the street has many beers -- and Portland City Grill for Happy Hour is a MUST.

If you are looking for "funky Portland" walk down NE 23rd street for shops and food -- or even SE Hawhorne St. or NE Alberta Ave. N. Misissippi has a few more Breweries too...

PM me and let me know where you are staying, I'll have more ideas. Other than beer.
I wanna go back to the Island...

See you in Boston, September 2nd!

PM on its way!

Did you say Navy ships will be in? There will be Navy boys in town? :wench: :wench: :wench:

I'm from Texas silly! I've been to good beaches and not so good beaches. The beach probably isn't on my list of priorities for my Oregon trip.
