Goin' to Lulus?

Post by krusin1 »

Our summer plans are finally coming into focus. Just booked a week in Gulf Shores early June (YAY!)

We're planning to go to Lulu's, but have heard it's very, very, busy. Any suggestions on when best to stop by for lunch or dinner? (Four of us total, two are kids, so we won't be there just for the bar and entertainment.)

(On a related note -and another YAY! - we'll also swing by New Orleans to hit the M'ville there. :D )

Thanks in advance for any help.

The wife and I are headed down to Pensecola next week! We're planning to go to Lulus for lunch.
Maybe it won't be as busy. Are you staying at the Margaritavill Beach Hotel?

We had a really bad experience at Lulu's.
I hope your trip is better.

Not staying at the hotel, although it's really cool. (We stopped by last year to look around.) We're actually staying on the beach in Gulf Shores.

Enjoy your trip!

Don't be in a hurry. The wait for dinner starts after 5-6pm and can be as long as an hour or more. We try to plan on dining late, after 9, to avoid the wait plus have time to chill at the BB. Check the music calendar. If there is some live music on one of the outdoor stages, put some beach chairs in the trunk and set up camp in the sand with boat drinks.

Lulu's was great when I visited. Food was good (get the gumbo), service was good, nice atmosphere. The wait at lunch was around 45 minutes. But that was also during the gulf shores show.
There's this one particular harbor.....

We got there on a great weekday evening.
Weather was beautiful.
I stood in line to get our name on the list and there were already so many people in front of us that they had run out of beepers.
We should have seen it as a sign.

About an hour later, we finally got a beeper but while we waited we shopped and looked at the beautiful boats.
And we waited
and we waited
and we waited.
We talked about leaving, but had been wanting to eat at Lulu's for so long that we stayed.

3 hours later, we were finally called for a table.

I don't remember what Ryan and I had for dinner, but Larry ordered a cheeseburger.
Never a bad choice...right?
Wrong
His cheeseburger was still party FROZEN! :o
He ate what he could, and that wasn't very much.

After waiting so long and wanting to eat at Lulu's it was a huge disappointment.
Don't know that we will ever make the trip again.

Molly, I'm hoping that your experience was a rare thing. I've been a few times and service and food has always been the best. Hopefully your next visit will be A+.

We were there a few years ago. The wait wasn't too bad and there's an outside bar that you can get margaritas at. The food was ok, but nothing to go out of your way for, really not worth the wait. We went back one evening late to listen to Brent Burns.

It was worth going once, but there are better places to go. I'd be willing to try lunch there, but I probably wouldn't go again for dinner.

Sometimes the wait is fun, too. You get to shop at the cute gift shop or the kids can play in the HUGE sand play area with all the toys, adults can have a beverage 8) or two and you can people-watch.

This year I was told I am not allowed to play in the sand pile...

Hello Everybody,

The wife and I ate at Lulu's Saturday for a late lunch after visiting the Navel Museum. There was a ton of traffic for the Hangout music fest but not a big issue. Lulu's was not crowded due to the fest. Got seated right away near the water so we could watch the boats go by. I had the Pot roast sandwich my wife had a chicken wrap. Both were great. We thought the place was very nice. When we go back we will visit and stay longer for sure.

My wife and I have been once. When we go back we'll go early, i.e. Go for a really late lunch, like 3pm and then just soak up the folks as they come in for the Supper rush.

Three hours is unbelievably ridiculous...I'm thinking they forgot ya'll, or your pager didn't work. Even during MOTM, our large crowd got in pretty quickly. Three hours should be illegal !!! ... :o ...
