Anyone been to Cozumel lately? Is it safe?
We are thinking about doing a dive trip sometime in the fall. We love Cozumel but haven't been there in about three years.
We live in South Texas, and our border towns in Mexico are war zones. We no longer go to Matamoros or Progresso. I've also heard that Alcapulco is not safe.
Any reports?

During our recent trip there, it was safe during the day. At night, just like most urban areas, it's best to stay close to your resort or near popular restaurants and bars. Enjoy your dive and say hello to Paradise Beach Tom!

Thanks for the update. We generally stay at Fiesta Americanas, but like to go into town for dinner.
Don't try to describe the ocean if you've never seen it.

Re: Cozumel
We went last summer (with my 8 year old) and it was perfectly safe. We also have a trip planned in a few weeks. We stay at the Casa Del Mar and the same people work there that did 10+ years ago.

Re: Cozumel
We'll be heading for Cozumel in November (cheaper, hopefully post-hurricane season) and living it up at the Iberostar, where we'll go diving.
Celebrating our 65th birthdays a couple of weeks early.
Not used to being "trapped in an all-inclusive resort" because we usually go to IB*s to visit our son at work, but he's not there. We will need to do some excursions to the town, perhaps. I'd like to go back to the wonderful restaurant with a garden and a gazebo where said son proposed to his sweetheart. Any other recommendations?

Re: Cozumel
The question that bothers me so is this:
Is there a Margaritaville in Cozumel?
The Cancun Mville website says there is, but that site is mostly inactive. Maybe I'll check the "new, improved" Mville site now...

Was there just a few days ago.
Take your swimmers and snorkling gear, you can dive in from the tiki bar on the verandah.
Be prepared for a shock when you look at the menu:
Cheesburger = $155
Took us a while to work out that it is in peso**. $155Mex works out at about $14USD
**Yes we had already had a few margaritas at that point of time.

Thanks. Now the only problem is getting No Parrot there with me!

Re: Cozumel
We had a great week at the Iberostar in Cozumel, mostly diving.
We had a fine lunch at MVille, and No Parrot liked it a lot, too.
I have some pictures up in Critterville Cove, and my current FB picture is from there, too.
