Thanks Penny! Us Great Woods tailgaters have been known to bend the rules now and again...SMLCHNG wrote:For what it's worth.. I sure hope Jimmy DOES show up for this show next year. I'd be sad for you all to have it not happen with all the planning.
This board has always 'allowed' threads in the 'Who's Going To" forum for show dates that have been announced.
MOTM is announced EVERY year so far, without waiting for Jimmy's tour dates to be announced.
You didn't HAVE to run to FB, there's always the Social area here. That would have worked just fine.![]()
Have at it.

Re: Who's Going to Great Woods 2012?
This is the nitty gritty on the fires on the beach in Wellfleet. You have to wait in line the day of to get a permit. The office I think opens at 8 but peeps start lining up way before. They only hand out a few for each beach. Now if Buffett keeps in line with the June dates we may be able to have one before they start issuing permits for the summer season.TongaTam wrote:most excellent idea! and then we can get all the nitty gritty info on the bonfire deal!maid memories wrote:In the spirit of utilizing this thread to plan ahead for next year I suggest we call ahead to make sure he is working that evening.TongaTam wrote:he was quite yummy, wasnt he?!maid memories wrote:

I don't know what is going on down there this year. I can't believe they didn't have the life guards or fee collectors on duty yet. It will be a wait and see type of thing.
Too bad we don't have enough peeps to hire the place out for the night with a band...that would be awesome! of course next year The Incredible Casuals may be back. I couldn't believe how dead it was...

When you think it's appropriate talk to Clark about how far in advance and for how long we could get those houses. In theory they hold 6 people each. And you never know, we might HAVE a big enough group to rent the place out!

Re: Who's Going to Great Woods 2012?
Most people walk down to the beach, take a left, go out about 100 yards where there is nothing (no houses, business, etc) and party. We have never applied for a permit and have camped out there every year at some point since 1992. Nobody cares. It is unused land.ScarletB wrote:MacPhin wrote:This is the nitty gritty on the fires on the beach in Wellfleet. You have to wait in line the day of to get a permit. Theoretically, if we had somebody coming in to play that could draw enough, we wouldn't need to rent it out to convince them to stay open. I just want to rent the bartender.

I was surprised it wasn't more crowded but then I remembered the traffic phlocking off the cape as we drove down. It was a great weather day to head to the beach. Though I wasn't going in the water, especially after I saw the horseshoe crab.MacPhin wrote:This is the nitty gritty on the fires on the beach in Wellfleet. they don't hurt you. It was really strange that was on the ocean side. they are a bay type of creature and like eel grass. They do not bite. As hideous (some people might say) that they look, they are actually very passive and non-threatening. Growing up with them in Long Island Sound, we would often find them along the shore as the tides changed. Turning them over, you can "tickle" the soft area between their legs near their mouth (I know this will get far to many jokes) and they wiggle all their legs.SwissParrotHeads wrote:But horseshoe crabs don't do you no harm or do they?tigzoe wrote: I was surprised it wasn't more crowded but then I remembered the traffic phlocking off the cape as we drove down. Tell that to Steve Irwin. In fairness to the stingrays, though, their venomous barbs are a self-defense measure and they are not generally an aggressive species.tigzoe wrote:Isn't that what they said about stingrays?AmerigoJoe wrote:They do not bite. A: I knew horseshoe crabs don't hurt humans, they are vegetarians. It was so cool to see a shelf, Irene and I like interesting animals. She was really interested in that pic, and in the one of Lesley holding a starfish!MacPhin wrote:they don't hurt you. B: I think I remember someone posting a pic of a horseshoe crab over at the Florida board I read and write. IIRC they found it somewhere at the gulf shore.
I know that having crabs and seals on a coast / near a beach is a good sign for the natural environment. The same goes for jellyfish btw.
Coast Guard Beach on Cape Cod didn't make it No. 10 on Dr. Beach's list for best beaches in the USA for 2010 for nothing!
Sorry, I forgot the smileys! This was meant to be as an humouros post, the one before...!
