This is one of...if not the best that I have heard in a very
long time. There are so many fantastic songs on this set.

I hope the awards come rolling in for it ... it's the best CD of 2011. IMHO ... and may be one of the best ever. I'm still liking the way they matched artist and song ... it really worked out.

Haven't looked at Guy's schedule...but was happy to see he is at Poor David's Pub in Dallas in March.
I can't go, but it's nice to know he's there.

My drive home from work tonight took me around the North Shore of Lake Tahoe around Emerald Bay to the South Shore and down the mountain to home. Anyway, I had the chance to listen to both CD's while driving around Lake Tahoe. I had a really great day!

THANK YOU for posting this. I looked all over for the AMA's last night. Here's from NPR this AM. There's just not enough award shows.Tiki Torches wrote:Just heard this won Album of the Year at the Americana Music Awards which are being broadcast on NPR tonight, live from Nashville.
Welch, Civil Wars, Shakes Win At Americana Awards

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Gillian Welch and her partner Dave Rawlings, The Civil Wars and Alabama Shakes took home trophies, but Music City was the big winner at Wednesday night's Americana Honors & Awards.
This must have been amazing:
Producers Tamara Saviano and Shawn Camp won album of the year for "This One's For Him: A Tribute to Guy Clark." The win came after Clark took the stage for a performance of "My Favorite Picture of You," the night's most powerful moment.
"I wrote this for my wife Susannah, who died in June," Clark told the crowd. "I wish she could be here to hear it. But I'll play it for her anyway."

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but I think there's far too many. Awards in and of themselves are sort of a mixed bag as it's extremely difficult to rate art. It ends up turning it into a competition which isn't the point of art or music, at least to me. On the other hand, I'm glad the Americana Music Association exists, if for no other reason than to shine a light on music that is deserving of the attention that it's otherwise not going to receive from mainstream country music outlets. You're definitely not going to see a tribute to Guy Clark win on the CMA's, same thing for the tribute to Levon Helm that took place last night. Nor will you see pairings like this (which actually took place after the fact at The Mercy Lounge):Tequila Revenge wrote:There's just not enough award shows.

Trust me, 100% sarcasm intended. Have you found a pod cast of last nights show? Love to hear Guy's performance.Tiki Torches wrote:I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but I think there's far too many. On another note, I've noticed a few record stores (for lack of a better term) have a section called "Americana," separate from Country and Folk for these artist.

No, I haven't. Then again, I haven't really looked though I would love to see the all star finale of "The Weight". I listened in last night via the NPR feed but it kept breaking up.Tequila Revenge wrote:Trust me, 100% sarcasm intended. Have you found a pod cast of last nights show? Love to hear Guy's performance.
I really don't think that's necessary. The terms Americana, No Depression, alt.country, etc. will never be clearly defined (same thing for rock n' roll itself) but there's no need for a separate category. As much as I'm glad to see these left of center artists (save for Robert Plant) gain more attention, terms like "Americana" can also be confining. By the way, I'm not saying Plant isn't worthy of the attention, I mean that he's someone that's already well known on an international level. In a just world artists such as Guy Clark and John Prine should be just as well known but unfortunately they're not.Tequila Revenge wrote:On another note, I've noticed a few record stores (for lack of a better term) have a section called "Americana," separate from Country and Folk for these artist.
