Terry, that should be so special. I haven't been to the new venue yet.
Here's another for your area next year:
Guy Clark in Dallas
David Card of Poor David’s Pub in Dallas has announced that Guy has booked Poor David’s for two shows, March 9 and 10, 2012, to celebrate Poor David’s 35th anniversary.
Both shows will probably sell out so advance tickets are a good idea – http://www.frontgatetickets.com -- or if you’re local you can avoid the service charge by buying at Bill’s Records next door to PD. Buying at Bill’s is an experience; you’re likely to get a scrap of paper with Bill’s receipt scrawled out in pencil, but it will get you into the show.

That's wonderful but I still prefer vinyl records and CDs to mp3's. Even though I became iPod friendly in recent years, I've yet to purchase a single download (unless you count the download code card that comes with some vinyl albums these days).
I'll admit I haven't thrown out the discs yet either. Most of what is on my iPod is stuff I have on CD and just transferred to the iPod for the convenience and mobility. Truth is, even though I downloaded from Amazon, I'll probably order the CD from Guy's website too. Here's my argument for downloading....I work for a company that sells stuff on Amazon and, assuming that digital downloads are treated the same way as other products, Amazon does all this complicated stuff with sales ranks, matrices, etc. Basically if a large amount of a product is sold in a short amount of time, the rank increases, which causes more traffic to be directed to that product page which theoretically means more possible sales. Highly ranked products are not only featured extensively on Amazon but Amazon is also heavily tied in with Google and other search engines, so a high rank on Amazon means more exposure across the web in general. So I figure what the hell, for $3.99 I got the instant gratification of being able to listen to some awesome music right away and the warm, fuzzy feeling of thinking that my small contribution might have helped at least a little bit to get some well deserved attention for a great musician.

I'm already down for one of the Poor David's shows. I like that room.

I haven't thrown out my compact discs either, nor will I ever do that but I know of people that have once they ripped their collection to their iTunes. I also still have all my old homemade mixtapes and all my vinyl. I put too much work into those mixtapes to part with them. As for the vinyl, I will listen to my records again once I upgrade to a new turntable. The downside to the $3.99 (and lower) mp3 sales is that it encourages people to buy a music format that is of a lesser quality. The more that people do that, the more likely it is that mp3 will win out as the most desirable format. Since the industry pays much more attention to the casual listener than those concerned with sound quality, that's a very dangerous proposition. If mp3's become the only way we can get music, that will be one sad day. Thankfully, vinyl sales are on the upswing.
I cannot believe my good fortune. This landed on my desk today ...
The famed McGuire photograph of Guy Clark's guitar workbench is now available as a limited edition print. This 20x30" high quality print is offered in a matte finish while supplies last. Guy will be autographing a limited amount of these...get them while you can.
Mr. Mathews and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary at the end of the month. He's offered to have it framed for me. Oh, man. It's just stunning. I am one lucky girl. One very, very lucky girl.

I would love to be there. A trip to Austin is long overdue as I have family there I haven't seen in a while but it won't be happening on Guy's birthday. Hopefully sometime in 2012.

FYI. I got an advance copy of THIS ONE'S FOR HIM. James McMurtry's cover of COLD DOG SOUP might just be the best cut I've heard all year. It's a perfect combination of Guy's lyrics, James' unique musicality and the ghost of Townes Van Zandt. I listened to it all day today ... amazing. I get paid to listen to music and this cut is as good as it gets.

I'm not sure about our logistics. I may be coming in that afternoon ... PM and let me know where you're staying.
Am listening to CDS right now. Whoever got McMurtry for this cover is genius.
