Jimmy's Cough
I have noticed in the last little while that while playing live Jimmy is continually turning to his side and coughing. I am wondering what is up with that.
I know that he has 'twitchy' tendencies, as he likes to lick his lips a lot and I hope that the cough is simply that and nothing more.
Anyone else notice him turning while playing and coughing to clear his throat?

I imagine singing for a couple of hours would make one's throat "tickly" a lot.

I hope this is the case... It is a recent phenom though, something that I saw starting in the last few years.nutmeg wrote:I imagine singing for a couple of hours would make one's throat "tickly" a lot.

Tina also sounded hoarse last time. It must be the mid-tour throat ick. Happens in Broadway road shows, too.

Re: Jimmy's Cough
I always liked that "licking the lips" thing.
I wonder if he still does his voice warm up exercises before the concerts. He used to. At least he said he did. I didn't notice the cough, but I did notice the hoarseness, which can come if you are straining your voice and not taking care of it and not using it properly.

Re: Jimmy's Cough
I heard on the news the other day that some areas are experiencing more allergy related illness because of the weather. Even pets are being affected. I wonder if it's a allergy thing?
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

I did notice him coughing a few time in Toronto, but he seemed to be in good strong voice nonetheless.

Maybe he's practicing for the Paris show when he might have a frog in his throat.

Re: Jimmy's Cough
He has allergies, there are times when he sounds congested as well. I don't usually suffer too much from pollen etc but this summer is driving me crazy - sneezing, itchy eyes etc. I know that pollen is above normal just about everywhere.

Amen on the allergies, I sing fine still, but I end up coughing a lot as well....(Of course my doctor puts me on Lisinopril so I definitely need to drink a LOT of fluids as well or I get the dry throat...

Re: Jimmy's Cough
It may just be a nervous habit also. The "cough" has been around for a long time. If you go back and look at some of the older videos or listening to some of the shows you'll hear/see that he has had that cough for a number of years.
Re: Jimmy's Cough
So Jimmy starts his Cleveland preshow interview talking about clearing his thoat and "clears" continuously...as you can hear if you listen again to the SL recording.
At least he knows we are concerned about him.

Re: Jimmy's Cough
Oh c'mon guys, he's 64. Being in my early sixties I've noticed that I have to move guck and clear my throat a lot more in the last couple of years. Add to that the allergy situation this year and the fact that he's in mid tour I'm surprised he doesn't have to clear after every line. Saw the Zombies a year or two back and Colin was doing that very thing.
Livin' my life like a song.
