COMANCHE SKYPARK STORY FINALLY REVEALED!
I found this listgroup talking about this tonight:
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/sho ... hp?t=77170
This thread apparently started in 2001 with someone who asked that famous question: "Where is Comanche Skypark?"
Read thru the thread and you will find out the original poster (OP) died in 2008 with his question unanswered but many theories and explorations were tossed in the pot of informational gumbo.
FINALLY, just 2 days ago, someone answered the question from asking her father, who used to fly with Jimmy.
Enjoy!
LOL I'm a Hero tonight! FINS UP!

Great story!
Can you just see that 90 yr old grandma taking her pistol out of the holster strapped to her walker...........

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

Excellent find Tango! How cool is that. And yes, there is further proof that you don't mess with grandmothers.

Re: COMANCHE SKYPARK STORY FINALLY REVEALED!
This is pretty cool. I live about 30 miles from Ione and drive through the town on a regular basis on my way out of the foothills and to the Bay Area. There's a lake near the air strip called Comanche Reservoir and you can see an area map here: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=calavaras ... =en&tab=wl, And here's a Google view of Comanche Sky Park here: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe= ... a=N&tab=wl So the air strip in the middle of no where with no lights all rings true.
The part of the story that does not make sense to me, but it was back in 1978, was the distance from CSP to the Fair grounds where the concert was held. There has to be more to the story, and somehow I bet there's a woman or women to blame.

I don't know about that one, but I remember an issue of "Coconut Telegraph" maybe ten years ago with a story in which it was revealed that someone — I think it was a student in a high school civics or ethics class — had written to Jimmy and asked him if he ever did 'pay the Mini-Mart back' ("The Peanut Butter Conspiracy"). Jimmy, or at least his publicists, actually wrote back to the student and admitted that he had in fact made good by the Mini-Mart.tryin' to reason wrote:This is great!!

The print issue still is published, quarterly I think. I only seem to get the Christmas issue with all the gift ideas.Bicycle Bill wrote:I don't know about that one, but I remember an issue of "Coconut Telegraph" maybe ten years ago with a story in which it was revealed that someone — I think it was a student in a high school civics or ethics class — had written to Jimmy and asked him if he ever did 'pay the Mini-Mart back' ("The Peanut Butter Conspiracy"). And, yes, what a great find. Maybe one day we'll get some more of the stories straight from Jimmy.
