I have to respectfully take issue with some of your comments. We got an encore--depending on how you look at it, we either got 2 or 4 songs for encores--everything after Fins was encore.

While God's Own Drunk is not a song I like, I have never heard it live, and I do understand that for some, hearing it live is a big deal. it counts, even if you don't like it. As for Use me--this is not the first tour where he has turned the show over to a band member or vocalist for a solo, and not even the first tour for him to do that with Nadirah. It is great that he features them, and actually does that rather than take an intermission. I had no problem with either of these decisions.

Again, this is not the way anyone wanted the concert to end, but it is not the end of the world-life goes on, and, luckily, so does Jimmy, Not every cocnert can be a favorite,. But Oh, the stories we can tell.....

i was disappointed with the technical difficulties. in fact, i can't stand toyota park. but i'll continue to go if jimmy plays there. otherwise we were talking about going to alpine valley instead next year.

I talked to Nadirah this afternoon, and she confirmed that they blew the power at Toyota Park. She mentioned how cool it was that Jimmy just grabbed his guitar and played, and the crowd all sang along until they could get the generators going for the last two songs.

I'd say Jimmy handled it like a true professional.

Roll with the punches,
play all of his hunches,
made the best of whatever came his way.
What he lacked in ambition,
he made up with intuition,
plowing straight ahead come what may.

:D

:D I am quite sure he wasn't happy it happened...but it sounds like he did the best he could do with the situation. Nice quote!

Wow? An hour? Thank God nothing like that ever happens for us at the Bristow shows.

Could be much worse at Bristow this year......... :o :pirate:

You got 28 songs and why you're not counting 2 songs that were sung in other venues this year is beyond me. I don't like Volcano or 5 0'clock somewhere but they COUNT. Nadirah has sung "Use Me" to give Jimmy a break in every show this year. Toronto got 27 songs and Cleveland and Wisconsin got 29, as I said in the other thread you were "cheated" out of NOTHING. Get over it.

The traffic control and parking sounds like a real problem for Toyota Park. Listening to it on RM sounded like the whole concert was a little rough, but still Jimmy. My last experience in Chicago was at Tinley Park a few moons back and I still have great memories of the lawn experience, but Toyota Park should have been great. Sorry you folks had some difficulties! Can't say enough about the DTE Energy experience at Detroit this year, even with the heat it was one of the best PH fests I'd been to in some time. From the parking lot, to the people I met, the set list, it was all a great show this time. :pirate:

The venue seems to be revising the parking situation each year. Their problem is that the lot does not have the capacity it needs to for a Buffett show, between the cars, and the need for tailgating space. So, 3 years ago, they started selling some premium spaces for those with HUGE tailgates. This year, rather than opening up the North and East lots immediately, they controlled things more. They had marked lines in the pavement/gravel, so those working there knew what the boundaries were for cars, and we found that we had more space than usual. Apparently, as the lots filled, and as the concert grew closer, they then had people parking in lots other than theirs, several blocks away.

I found getting out took longer than in the past, but from what I have seen, and from my conversations with this staff, they are already working on revising plans for next year, seeing what works, and what they need to change. that to my is the biggest difference between this place and Tinley--this place cares.

As for Jimmy, he looked really p*** off about the situation. Again, my guess is that tToyota Park management has already put things in place to make sure that doesn't happen again. 4 years ago, they told us they wanted to make this Jimmy's permanent Chicago venue, and I am sure they will make this right.

They did that at GW this year too- there were lines that you had to stay within for your EZups etc. My first inclination was to think it was BS just given history with the geniuses that run that lot but it actually worked out well. We had plenty of room and it did make wandering the lot substantially easier. Of course it helped that we were in the front row of the front lot so had no issue with "dead cars" etc and had lots of room.

Wondering why getting f'd is considered a bad thing, when most people find it quite pleasurable. If I left a concert feeling like I got f'd, it must have been pretty damn good for it to be gasmic.

Sorry. That's how my mind works.

I may or may not be one of the know it alls, but I just can't imagine feeling quite this hostile about what happened Saturday. This was my one and only concert of the year, and while it was not the ending I would have drawn up in my mind, I think they did their best to make a bad situation less bad. The fact that they did not bring the video screens back up was proof they were not operating under full power, but they did their best to get Jimmy back out there for 2 final songs (otherwise known as encores).

As bad as you think this situation was, contemplate the possibilities of power going out to the entire stadium with thousands of drunk parrotheads trying to make their way out of their. Between that and the increasing lightening off in the distance, I am sure nobody wanted to tempt fate any more than they did.

Will it be remembered as my favorite Buffett concert...no, but it definitely will be remembered! And will I be back--of course I will, to see what he does next year, what he says about this year, and to see another terrific concert!

If this keeps you from coming back, I think it will be your loss. Our tailgate had over 20 people, and none are hesitating with plans to be back next year!

Care to explain how you got f**** over? You bought a concert ticket. You got to see a concert. The power went out. That's out of everyone's control. You heard songs you apparently don't like. I hear at least one song I don't like at just about every concert I go to, Buffett or otherwise. You didn't get an "encore". BFD, you still got to hear the same number of songs he plays at other concerts. It's not as if the band left the stage after 10 songs and walked off thumbing their noses at the crowd. Save your money and stay home next time, then you won't have to worry about getting f****.

I'm sorry, but to me, that was one of the coolest things I've ever seen!!! Well played, Jimmy! I'd have loved to have been there, although I realize the quality of it was probably lost the farther back in the stadium you went.

Thanks Larry, I was trying to think of how to respond yet again to this post and thinking that "You're an idiot" wasn't the best thing to say I decided to drop it - but this is good. 8)
