9 Innings From Ground Zero

If you have been on Buffettnews at all in the past however many years you might know I am a die hard Red Sox fan, that I hated the New York Yankees and don't apologize for it, and that I felt (on more than one occasion) that Derek Jeter was an evil as$hole who needed to go away.

That being said I am also a lover of baseball and, of course, the United States of America.

I post this because I am sitting in my brother's house watching 9 Innings From Ground Zero. It is an HBO documentary that details the World Series between NYY and Arizona after the 9/11 attacks.

It is the best documentary I have ever seen (on any subject matter . . .) in a very long time. It is both poetic and beautiful when trying to re-create the symmetry between the people of NYC and the players of the NYYs exhibited during that time. I don't need a documentary to tell me this. I remember it well. It is however, flawless in encapsulating the time, emotion, desperation, hope, need, love, anger, and community people felt . . . and their love for a game.

Watch it. Do yourself the favor . . . it is worth your time.

(((Ellen)))

I'll try to catch it now. I remember watching that World Series from beginning to end. At the time I wasn't emotionally tied to any baseball team, but my love of NYC and my overwhelming sense of patriotism had me pulling for the Yankees even before my boss got me into the team.

I didn't want the Yankees to win, but would not have been my usual "upset" if they had won (since I am a Red Sox fan) and since I was living in New Jersey at the time and was supposed to have started a job at the World Financial Center then -- got a job offer on September 10th.....

I watched it a few ago, and thought it was an excellent documentary. All of us Sox fans can put aside our hate for the Yankees to watch it.
