WOW!!!!

Post by allucaneatbuffett »

I know that the Hurricane postponed Jimmy Show at Jiffy Lube til Thursday.

But WOW!! I just went on Livenation and checked out the tickets still available... I clicked on the Map and scrolled around. Their must be at least 50% of the pavillion with tickets available...... What is the deal with that? Did that many people return their tickets?? Nobody is going to be at this show.. Unreal.

I think it's a combination of the reschedule and the tailgate ban. I would imagine some people are happy about it being rescheduled. Now they can get refunds for tickets they didn't want to use because of the no tailgating. I feel sorry for the club leaders of the Parrothead clubs that get club tickets for this venue. What a mess trying to get refunds for those tickets. For once I'm glad our club venue is Camden.

I added up the listed section available amounts last night and figured out it's about 30% empty right now. If the tailgating ban wasn't enough to do JLL in, the inability to come close to filling the place on top of it I'm sure will spell the end for Buffett shows here. I can only hope he'll find somewhere else in DC but there's not many, if any, outdoor options left unless he goes back to Merriweather which is way smaller.

That would certainly blow. But if you are Jimmy, and you look out over the pavillion and lawn and see 30%-40% ghosts in attendance, along with Jiffy Lube banning tailgating, you are gonna say screw it.

I decided not to attend for a couple reasons this year. Primarily b/c of my sons tournament. I certainly hope this isn't it for him around here. You are right. not really any other options. Merriweather is too small. Maybe another stadium concert. Who knows.

Then on the other hand, I wonder just how much longer is he gonna be doing this anyway. 65 next year? I see alot smaller of a tour schedule in the works.

I believe Merriweather holds around 19,000. Jones Beach is only around 15,000 so its not like he couldnt play Merriweather.

I'm just hoping that those BNers that do attend the Bristow show report back with their observations about the atmosphere, the attendance, and whether JB makes any remarks about the JLL situation......pictures would be nice, too! :pirate:

As far as alternate concert sites in the Baltimore/Washington area other than a return to Merriweather (doubtful)? I guessing it would be stadiums in Baltimore like Orioles Park at Camden Yards (I'd go....) or M&T Bank Stadium (home of the NFL Ravens). In Washington either Nationals Park or FedEx Field (home of the Redskins). None are perfect, but if they permit tailgating....... :o

He has played MPP 44 times according to the database here at BN.
I went to probably 40 of those 44 shows. MPP was practically in my backyard
when I lived in Columbia, MD. Many years he did 3 shows each summer.
Every year he did at least 2 shows.

The only venue he has played more times is Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA.

Cincinnatti's recent show finally caught Cincy up to the same number of
total shows as Merriweather Post.

He left Merriweather reportedly when Columbia, MD and the venue
started cracking down on ... you guessed it .... tailgating.

Nissan Pavilion was a newer "tailgate friendly" alternative
so he said "bye bye" to Merriweather Post.

Perhaps things will come full circle and he'll return.

When he rescheduled Chicago in 2001, postponing the shows for 2 weeks because of 9/11, there were tons of empty seats. People who had planned to be there from out of town just could not do so two weeks later. And, I think I remember folks on the lawn, in some cases, were allowed to move into the pavillion to fill it.

I know I am out on a limb here with most of you, but I have to believe that most of the cancellations will be due to date issues. tailgating is a big part of the experience, true, but there are many who come without tailgating, and many for whom this is their one Buffett experience of the year (they don't know BN, they don't listen online and they don't travel to shows).

I still believe that most of those that can come to the delayed concert will do so.

Not me. I cancelled and got a refund due to the tailgating enforcement
changes that trickled out only after I bought my tickets.
The tailgate experience is perhaps more my reason for attending shows
these days than the actual concert itself.

Now that said ..... this year's rescheduled show
with it's
post earthquake / post hurricane vibe
end-of-the-summer tour final show

played before a partially filled venue ....

.... just might make for a more unique setlist
and experience
that will be a one-of-a-kind show.

He may even start playing FedEx Field.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

It's a combination of events that are causing people to turn in their tickets. The tailgate ban means the parking lot does not open until 4PM so you will now have concert goers fighting rush hour traffic to get to a venue with inadequate roads anyway.
I'm still going hoping this is not the last time Jimmy comes to the DC area.

Just checked ticketmaster...3,467 reserved seats now available...$17 lawn seats available on Stub Hub. Is anyone going to this show? We may try and schedule a long weekend away....I think Jimmy will put on an extra special show to "make up" for the no tailgating so a $17 lawn seat may be well worth it.

There's tailgating in Vegas? (I suppose if you count the street party and maybe the venues themselves, but I didn't know there was an organized tailgate...)

Hmmmmm..... let's see....everywhere you go there's beer and booze....some free most very cheap......there's no problem walking the streets with open containers......there's a big street party day of the show and lots of smaller parties going on....and of course drinking is involved......you either walk, shuttle of taxi everywhere so it is safe....... I dunno.....I must have missed the tailgate somewhere......
