Time for a new Buffett Box Set?

Post by cajunpirate »

Since "Boats, Beaches, Bars & Ballads'" we've seen 8 new albums (Fruitcakes, Barometer Soup, Banana Wind, Beach House on the Moon, Far Side of the World, License to Chill, Take the Weather with You and Buffett Hotel).

In addition to the country album "License to Chill," Jimmy paired with Alan Jackson on the "Hoot" soundtrack (Barefootin') and the smash-hit "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere."

In addition to 4 other songs on "Hoot," there's also "Don't Stop the Carnival," and songs from films that didn't make the first box set. "I Don't Know" from Fast Times (how this didn't make the first box set is a mystery), "Don't Bug Me" from Arachnaphobia, and the unreleased "Turning Around" from Summer Rental and "Purple People Eater" from Contact.

There's also a Christmas album (Christmas Island) and a few duets, from Frank Sinatra and Dan Hicks, to Zac Brown Band and Evangeline, to Kermit the Frog and Gonzo, just to name a couple.

Willing to bet there are a few songs that almost made some albums, but were left off at the very last minute.

Enough material for a new set?

There has also been the invention of Itunes and Ipods, which allow you to make your own.

At the time this was released, you could also assemble your favorite Buffett cuts via cassette tape or CD, that didn't eliminate the need for a box set. That said, I'd rather see remastered editions of his early albums on ABC/Dunhill than a new box set.

i gotta agree. there really isn't a market for cds these days and especially "box sets." and honestly, the last thing jimmy needs to put out is another collection of old songs. i love those albums, but he already has a greatest hits collections,a box set, countless live cds, dvds, etc. and still doesn't play half his material in concert, especially from those albums. after this tour,i hope he gets the band together and puts out a new album that is a little bit more back to the overall flavor of fruitcakes and baromter soup but i highly dout it. i know there has been comments that jimmy himself has made about finding old material from way back and that may be a good start but who knows. i just hope i hear some steal drums again!
