An excerpt from the book .......
Nancy's heart raced.
"Could this be what I have been looking for?" she thought to herself as she pried up the old loose floorboard in the kitchen. Shining her flashlight into the open floor she spotted a yellowed paper tucked deep in the back. Dust fell from the aged document which she carefully unfolded and began to read the handwritten words ..... Fausto's: beer (case), sardines, peanut butter, chocolate milk, rolling papers ....
"Why it's a grocery list!" she exclaimed out loud,
"but who's?". Nancy started to replace the floorboard when she noticed another yellow scrap of paper. In her excitement she almost missed it. It was a legal document, a receipt folded neatly in a small envelope. Nancy carefully opened the receipt and read the typewritten words
'received $100 payment for 1953 Chevrolet pickup (blue), May 25, 1971, 316 Simonton St., Key West, ph. 295-6246'. The rest of the receipt was badly weathered.
"Well that's no help" she thought. She folded the receipt and began to place it back into the envelope when she noticed that it was addressed to a
J. Buffett and was mailed from a return address
'Monroe County Glass & Mirror Company'.
