I've only heard a few cuts so far, I'm trying to hold out until the 11th to listen to it all the way through for the first time. So far, it seems reviews from fans and the music press alike have been pretty favorable. That's a very good sign, especially after all the faux metal home experiments and the last few records he did with the Cardinals. I never even bothered to listen to Orion but I should probably give it a chance. I also purchased that Cardinals III/IV collection recently but still haven't given it a listen.

I don't know if Orion is any good or not...I heard it wasn't. I have really enjoyed what I have heard so far from this album and am looking forward to getting it in a few days. I have a live concert of his from Norway a few months back...his acoustic sound on a lot of the earlier tunes is really nice. I just hope he comes back to New Zealand soon!

Not sure if this story has been picked up by the mainstream music yet or not but he apparently upset Neil Finn (Crowded House, Split Enz) and Janis Ian over the weekend when he refused to take part in a song they'd rehearsed together for a taping of the Songwriters Circle for the BBC.

Interesting...nothing has been mentioned about that over here - and we seem to normally hear anything to do with the Finn brothers in this part of the world.

Just another example of how life is still a lot like high school.

Ryan's label has set up this site where you can listen to the entire album plus four bonus tunes that didn't make the cut.

Great videos, thanks for posting! I really like this album. I like that its mostly acoustic and more mello than his last albums. I never really got into CardinalsIII/Iv, I should give it another listen, I havn't played it since it came out. But I do really ike this one. So far Dirty Rain,Ashes and Fire, and Lucky Now are among my favs of it.

I purchased III/IV during the Borders going out of business sale but haven't given it a spin yet myself. I'm gonna have to do that. Seems reviews for it were pretty mixed. Glad to hear him finally back on track with Ashes & Fire. All the metal goof off stuff he was posting online grew old after a while and those last couple of records with the Cardinals (Easy Tiger, Cardinology) sounded largely uninspired. From what I've been reading, that may have been intentional since he seems to have been pretty unhappy being on Lost Highway.
