BVI accomidations suggestions

Hi all,
My honey and me will be going to the BVI next summer and will be spending 3 days at the Sandcastle on Jost Van Dyke. We are thinking hopping around and spending a few days on Tortola and maybe a night or two on St John. Can someone suggest some nice places on Tortola that would be sort of reasonable? We were originally planning on the week of August 8th but might need to adjust dates due to the full moon party at Bomba's (we would really love to go).

When we went we stayed at the Long Bay Beach Resort. It was very nice but Long Bay is a bit more secluded and we didn't have a boat so if I went back I would try some place in Cane Garden Bay so we would have more available without cab rides. That place on JVD is amazing though. Either way you'll have a great time.

outside of roadtown on tortola, cane garden bay is the most civilized with a nice beach, a certain tire swing, bars, and restaurants. there are beach side resorts at both ends of tortola, but they appear to be somewhat isolated. [Cane Garden Bay]

I highly recommend the Mongoose Apartments in Cane Garden Bay. Sanda and her husband are the most wonderful kind people and the accomodations are great. Nice clean rooms, kitchenette and a a block from Cane Garden Bay. Plus, you're right next to the Callawoods Rum Distillery. Her son, Elroy Jr. has a taxi & can drive you anywhere you would like. We've been to the BVI 3 times, but each time we chartered a sailboat for the week......unfortunately I can't recommend lodging on dry land!

The Bomba parties are legendary though.......

CGB, I was about to post the very same thing! We love the Mongoose and Sandra is an excellent hostess. We stayed in room 3 both times; the rooms are enormous (and they even have a little Christmas tree in a box in the closet to make it festive any time of year). It's literally a 3 minute walk down a coconut tree lined 'street' to the white sands of Cane Garden Bay.

We stayed at Fort Recovery on Tortola. Its off the beaten path which was fine by us. As long as you have a car, getting into town is no problem. Sopers Hole is nearby and the Jolly Roger rest/bar. It is kind of pricey, but we enjoyed it very much.

We went to the BVI in July/August for 12 days and can't wait to go back. Like Reefdiver, we also stayed at Fort Recovery for four nights and chartered a CAT for seven nights. We spent one night in Little Harbor and one night at Great Harbor before sailing into CGB with Manana blasting out of the stereo on the boat. It was great!

Lobster was great at Abe's and the BBQ at Foxy's was spectactular. Dinner and music at The Elm in CGB was great also. CGB would be a great place to stay for a few days.

Also, check out http://www.traveltalkonline.com/ and go to the BVI and Bareboating fourm. The people on there are as nice as the people here and will give you some great suggestions and local knowledge.

My family and I just got back from a 12 day VI/BVI trip. 3 days on St. Thomas (Sapphire Beach), 5 days on Jost Van Dyke (White Bay Villas) and 3 days on St. John (Cruz Bay- Grande Bay Resort). Depending on the time of year, some places are not open on Jost. We spent most of our time at the Soggy Dollar. Ivan's and Foxy's were not open yet, but we did meet Foxy. This was our first time down island and we are already planning when we will be returning (we really are!). It was amazing- the water, the people, everything. When we go again, I don't think we will stay on Jost even though it was beautiful. St. John gives you the ability to day trip to many different islands and had a lot more to do. The day trip we did to Tortola allowed us to see CGB, Callwood Rum Distillery, Smuggler's Cove (beautiful- need a jeep to keep driving once the pavement ends, but worth the trip) among other places. Grande Bay Resort was great. They met us at the dock to drive us to our room and gave all kinds of pointers about what we could do. We missed Kenny Chesney playing at Woody's by about 3 days (Woody's only holds about 35 people and it would have been incredible). Have a great time!

Hubby and I have stayed on Tortola land-based several times prior to discovering the wonders of bareboating. We really love Lighthouse Villas on Cane Garden Bay owned by Malcia Rymer, Quito's sister. It's a little pricier but the suites are really lovely and have beautiful views. They have full kitchens, a living area, comfy king-sized beds, and most have a nice balcony. Awesome that you are staying on Jost....that island is as close to idyllic as it gets! Enjoy!!
