Really good contacts for astigmatism

Post by buffettbride »

I wear glasses. I am tired of them. I want contacts. Not ready to plunge into eye surgery. I have worn contacts in the past but they have never been comfy. Not even the torics I tried. Like sandpaper on eyeballs. I am very nearsighted and have a ridiculous astigmatism. Glasses are ok most of the time but I really want to wear normal sunglases.

I too have a really bad astigmatism, but am severely farsighted. Tried contacts once and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. Been in glasses since the last day of kindergarten so they are just part of my life at this point. And my opthamologist tells me that lasik isn't great yet for my combination of problems, so I fully expect to remain in glasses.

I would make sure you are seeing a really good opthamologist (having grown up never seeing an optometrist) and ask them for recommendations of a place to go for contacts.

I've been wearing Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism for years. My eyeglasses are pretty old and probably need to be updated, so I actually have better vision with the contacts right now. Supposed to change lenses every two weeks, I've been know to wear them a lot longer  Never had an issue with them yet and you can buy them everywhere online so I don't have to pay the eye dr.'s prices when I need extra.

I wear these too, the MOST comfortable lenses I've ever had, they're SO comfy I've gone to bed with them on - which you shouldn't do, you wake up with them dried out and scratchy. I highly recommend them. Also, try Biotrue cleaning/wetting solution - it mimics the Ph of your eye and makes the lenses feel even better. Good luck!

And yes, I generally wear them for more than 2 weeks as well. 8)

Ditto for me on all issues :).

I have the acuvue and they've worked great for me -- I also wear them more than instructed but I can tell as soon as I pop one in if it's time for a change. Got mine on-line and as a first time customer got a significant discount.

Good luck!

I only wear one - I had cataract surgery in my left eye and it's like having a bionic eye now!

I switched to the hydrogen peroxide cleaning solution about a year ago, I really like that. It's like putting in a new pair of contacts in the morning. Maybe it's psychological, but seeing the contacts in the fizzy solution sure seems like they're getting cleaner than just sitting in the standard stuff.

I've been wearing hard lenses for about 44 years now (nearsighted)... currently Boston ES gas permeable lenses.
Due to my astigmatism, soft lenses wouldn't work for me when they first came out. They would probably be OK now, but hey, why mess with success?
I've thought about getting my orbs lasered, but I'm too chicken... You're only issued one pair of eyes and I'm not gonna mess with mine!

Let's see:
I've got an astigmatism.
I am nearsighted.
I wear the Accuvue Oasis lenses.
I change them once a month, although my new eye dr says it should be every 2 weeks.
I take them out at night.
I can't remember my numbers exactly but they are below 2.
I usually wear them 15 hours a day.
I disklike wearing my glasses.
I think I use to use toric but they felt "heavy" and thick.
I would like bionic eyeballs.
I buy the contacts at Costco.

Scary story: my ex-wife's grandmother had cataract surgery then told us she was so pleased, she can now see the people on the side walk when she drives!!!

Meaning she couldn't before....so lucky she didn't run anyone over

Eye surgery scares me. I'd be that 5% who was worse off than before. Dry eyes, etc. That would SO happen to me.

I was really nervous but they give you so much "happy juice" that it was nothing, you're conscious but you don't care. :D

Hubby may like you in glasses but being able to wear regular sunglasses is cool. :)

The old saying is "guys don't make passes at girls who wear glasses."
But that ain't necessarily true, it all depends on their frames . . . [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif]

If it makes you feel better my answers would be just about the same except I don't buy mine at Cosco. I just got back from the eye doctor an hour ago and ordered anoter years worth when I had my exam.

I used to wear contacts. Got fed up with them. A little bit near-sighted.
More so in one eye than the other. Don't like wearing glasses either.

The procedure doesn't scare me. It's the fact that I'd be the one they'd screw up on or down the road I'd have permanent dry-eye.
