Just looking around at ticket stubs posted on the net and there was a company called Friends Productions, Inc. that sponsored a RUSH concert at the Civic Center Coliseum in Amarillo in 1977.

Was Jimmy the OPENING acts for someone?
Rush was also there in October of 1975. Just looking for leads about opening acts.
http://www.test4echo.net/rush_tour_dates.htm Maybe the key is to look for info about The Eagles, or some group Jimmy opened for.

Also a ticket stub for TRIUMPH from 1978 sponsored by Friends Productions.

Jibe Ho!

Now that we've have tacked again...

Thanks, "conched" (Nancy)! Your research skills are impressive. The pictures of those old ticket stubs do bring back memories. You led me to some information on Friends Productions. From what I can gleen, Friends Productions came into existence in 1976. While I could not find anything connecting Friends Productions with JB, the search led me to old issues of BillBoard Magazine, which was interesting. BillBoard was reporting on JB traveling/touring with Emmyulou Harris in the '76 timeframe for some shows in and around Texas.
In the meantime, I just got off of the phone with the helpful guy at the Reference Desk at the Amarillo Public Library. While he could not find reference to JB's Amarillo show in the old back issues of the Amarillo newspaper, he did find BuffettNews.com to be very interesting. Again, he tells me that the Amarillo newspaper just was not very good at publicizing such entertainment back in those days. Seems the newspaper left it up to the local radio stations to get the word out. Hummm... Maybe another resource? Of course, as radio stations go; there has surely been a great deal of turnover in the last 35 years.
Anyway, my buddy and I are getting a hell of a laugh out of this trip.

I have nothing substantial to offer, but this has been a really fun thread to read! :D
My record collection is in my parents' spare closet back in America, but buried somewhere in it is a copy of CILCIA I bought on eBay several years ago, that came with a ticket stub from a show around that time. Now I'm curious about where and exactly when it was. I do remember the price was unbelievable - $3.50 or something like that.

We had a Texas Music genius (Steve Coffmann) working in our little town, and he ALWAYS played music for the parrotheads...but he has since passed on. He used to talk all the time about seeing Jimmy in the Dallas and San Antonio areas in special places...but I don't recall anything about Amarillo.

Amarillo always makes me thing of Terry Allen's Amarillo Highway. REK does this one too.

Again, good luck with your search. As I was researching some, I also found out that ONE of Elvis Presley's last shows was in Amarillo at the Civic Coliseum on March 24, 1977. [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif] :) :( :(
(Elvis Presley's last concert was held at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, IN on June 26, 1977 for a crowd of 18,000.)

You may also enjoy seeing some of the fine posters and STUPH in this collection found here on Buffettnews.com

http://www.buffettnews.com/gallery/thum ... ?album=105
Here is one of the posters from a show near Austin in 1975. As you can see, the poster doesn't really say that Jimmy played at the Armadillo Headquarters, which was in town...this was out at a ranch, so a different show than mentioned at The Armadillo.

Hello Everyone, I guess it is time for me to chime in too. I am Kirk's friend Scott, who attended the "Lost Concert" in Amarillo with Kirk or at least we are pretty dang sure we did. As Kirk stated earlier, we have been having a great time in our quest. This has been going on now for a couple of months now ever since i informed Kirk that my wife and i and some other friends were traveling to Vegas to catch Jimmy's last show. We were flipping through our official guides to his concerts when we noticed the concert that we attended was no where to be found. The search was on. Just want to thank everyone that has joined us in our quest. What a great bunch to be associated with. It is truly amazing the effect one person can have on millions of people. It has been a long time since i have laughed this hard. Hopefully our quest will end soon, as so i can actually get some work done during the day and get some sleep at night. Thanks again to everyone, and Jimmy if you are out there or any of the Coral Reefer band that attended the "Lost Concert". Help!

Yo Ho, Matey!

I really was getting discouraged and had not checked this discussion board for a couple days.
I figured we were DITWA on this quest. Being Dead In The WAter and going nowhere is frustrating. Unless, of course, you can jump overboard and take a quick and refreshing swim before the wind picks up again.
Then,,, this morning I saw that "evilskullned" had joined in on the BuffettNews action, too. The wind has returned!
I am now re-invigorated and ready to continue the quest.
"Evilskullned" - Let's weigh anchor, hoist the mainsail and the jib and keep this quest underway.
I've got the rum, cold beer and chilled rose' ready to go.
"Conched" - Thanks for your aid in navigation! Your research skills and results are truly amazing. I am thoroughly enjoying your posts. BTW - REK is a favorite of one of my son's and mine.

Under way again,
Kirk (phfromprospertx)

I didn't turn up anything to help you, except that Emmylou Harris did write a song named Amarillo with Rodney Crowell and did shows in 1976 with Rodney to promote her Elite Hotel album. It was fun learning all about Emmylou in the early days of her career. Didn't find a connection with Buffett playing with them in Amarillo though, but I did find this stellar youtube video of Amarillo.

We have another feeler out. Located a gentleman who was a college disc jockey at the Amarillo College radio station. the station began in early 1975 and was known for playing music that no one else was playing on normal channels. He is still in radio so hopefully his memory has not failed him, or at least he has some contacts who might know something regarding the "lost Concert". Keep your bones crossed.

Just circled back to the guy at the Amarillo Civic Center. His curiousity is at work and he has been doing some digging. Unfortunately, the archives are not great. So, nothing may turn up. He recommended contacting the folks at margaritaville.com. I told him that we already had done that (about a week ago) and have heard nothing from them, yet. So, we are still hoping to get something/anything from margaritaville.com.
btw - no response from the folks at Hastings Books and Records, either.

If not, you might want to check with them?

This goes out to "The Remittance Man". You mention an old ticket stub from that era. It is worth a shot... Think you could get your parents to look through that spare closet for your copy of CILCIA and check the venue & date on that ticket stub? Thanks!

Just heard back from the Amarillo College disc jockey, unfortunately he says his memory is a bit foggy also and does not remember Jimmy being there in the 70"s, however he talked with someone who was associated with the Amarillo Civic Center for 30 yrs, who said that he did remember him coming to Amarillo in the 90's for a Hastings convention, so there may be some kind of link with Hastings. Though our ship has taken heavy damage, we are not bringing out the life boats yet.

Well, as it turns out, my brother knows someone that works at the Hastings Corporate Office (in Amarillo) and my brother is in Amarillo today. Time permitting, he is going to stop by the Hastings Corporate Office and check in with that person. I am hopeful that a personal connection (as opposed to my submitted request through the Hastings "Contact Us" button on their website) will get some response. Yes, I have received no response from Hastings people, yet.

No huge news to report, however we did find under "resources" on this site, there is a sub heading, "Songs & Lyrics Database". And if you go to the song, "Who's the Blonde Stranger". There under Jimmy's Note, He states, "In a two week stint, I'd start in Amarillo and wind up on Padre Island, always amazed that I was still in the same state." So at least we know that he was in Amarillo. Of course, loads of people have driven thru Amarillo, dosen't mean they did a show in the Amarillo Civic Center Auditorium in 75 or 76. Keep your bones crossed.

Keep looking for your Amarillo show.
I lived in the area at the time but don't remember JB being in Amarillo
