Wasn't that one of SP's lines about "Critterfest"?
'If you remember it, perhaps you weren't really there.....'

Good luck, and keep pluggin' away at it. And don't be at all surprised if, sometime when you least expect it, the missing key to the puzzle lands in your lap.

So surfpirate and Bicycle Bill, just what exactly are you trying to say? LOL Hey Bicycle Bill, what type of biking do you do?
I do a little road biking, unfortunately not as much as i need or would like to be doing. I live 50 miles from Wichita Falls, Tx where they have the Hotter n Hell 100 bike ride, don't know if you have heard of it. It usually has around 13,000 riders each year. It really lived up to it's name this year with the record heat. Sorry, got off track, that happens when your memory starts leaving you. So, does anyone know when Jimmy Buffett was in Amarillo, Tx in 1975 or 1976?

I'm a (non-racing) road rider myself — the generally accepted term would probably be 'day-tripper' or 'touring cyclist' — and first got into the sport back around 1972. If you ever saw me in person you'd know why; one of the most tactful descriptions ever given of me was that I was "built for comfort, not speed".

Most of my mileage has been in the upper Midwest (IA, IL, MN, WI), though I have put parts of Texas beneath my wheels (around the Austin area). I have in fact heard of the Hotter'n Hell Hundred although I've never really felt like putting myself through it. Bike riding is supposed to be *FUN*, not Marine training or something done to accommodate a death wish!

Besides, who needs only one day of torment and torture when you can make a whole week of it on something like RAGBRAI in Iowa (which I have done 21 times over the years)?

Hey Bicycle Bill, nor am i a road racer. I am more of a "I hope i finish" type rider, I have rode the 50 mile route a few times in the HHH, along with a few 100k's in this area, but I have never attempted the 100 mile, the HHH is a pretty flat ride, the biggest problem is the wind. I have read about some of those week rides, if you have done that 21 times, i think you are cutting yourself a little short there BB, sounds like you are in a bit better shape than i. But like you, i do it for fun. always seems to be a pretty good group of people in the rides. But on a "lost show" note, I did speak with the third person that we know of that attended the show, I brought up the fact that Phillip Fajardo was from Amarillo, which shook her memory a bit, and she told me that she had ran around with his sisters when she was in high school in Amarillo, she thought they had moved from Amarillo also, but would check around and see if she could find anything out.

Scott (evilskullned) - Thanks for keeping this going. Not only was I out of touch for a while during the holiday, I was feeling a bit discouraged by the lack of progress our little ship was making.
"Grams", "Bicycle Bill", "springparrot", "Conched", "Remittance Man", "SurfPirate" and anyone/everyone else out there - Thanks for your comments, encouragement and help. I had almost removed my life vest, the safe line and was approaching the bow of our little ship with thoughts of bailing out and jumping overboard. You have brought me back from the edge, so-to-speak. Not that this little quest/journey is THAT serious, seriously.
Now, seriously, this is all in good fun!
With my new-fangled facebook account, I just reached out to Phillip Fajardo. I sure do hope he answers our request. We will certainly keep this place updated with any response/results.
In the meantime, Scott and I have been concocting some t-shirt designs to commemorate this little journey. We might just have to post a picture or two, if/when we get the designs out of our minds and onto paper (or something).
I sure could use a rum & diet coke right about now!

phins up, my phriends

Well, a few minutes at lunch turned into this...
It may look familiar because this is modeled after the Triumph ticket image that Nancy/"conched" found and loaded earlier in this discussion stream.
Scott and I sure would like to fill in those "?" marks with some detail.

Well, not much of an update at this time. I just didn't want any one to think that Scott or I had fallen off the face of the earth.
I wonder, though, about some of the people to whom we have reached out. Some of them just don't respond. Scott and I both created Facebook profiles. A message has been sent off to Phillip Fajardo. Friends keep telling me that some people just don't read their Facebook messages very often (hint, hint). We are taking on water! Get out the buckets and the bilge pump.
While trying to exercise our patience in waiting for a response (even if it is negative, offers up no details, etc., etc.), I guess Scott and I better get to work figuring out a way to reach Mike Wheeler (JB's former road manager). We let that lead rest for a while, since we held out such high hopes for reaching Phillip.
Thanks to all of you who post encouraging messages and/or dig up details for our little quest. This boat ain't sinking, yet.

I may get hammered for this ... but the energy vs. payout for this thread confuses me.
I have a few of these myself, e.g. I know I saw Jimmy play at Kings Dominion (Virginia) twice
in the late 70s and early 80s, yet neither is in the concert database (I think it was '79 and '80).
I attended both shows with my (very hot) college girlfriend. We spent the day at the park, rode the rides,
and saw the show in their amphitheater. I don't remember exact details and I didn't save the ticket stubs with the date
(I do remember it was $6 each with college ID to get into the park, all the rides AND see the show) ....

...... but I never considered it to be an all consuming quest that I had to get exact.

SP, just ask yourself why you do the 'Critters' strip considering, in your own words, "the energy vs. the payout" — and you'll have your answer.

Wow, "surfpirate", you took me by surprise. No intent to hammer you. I suppose you don't have to check the posts on a thread like this.
It is not like we are hung up on validating our own experiences, we are just having a good time recalling some old good times.
Thanks Bicycle Bill.

I have a good friend who used to ask; "Is the juice worth the 'squeeze'?".
Well, sometimes the 'squeeze' is half the fun. Heck, even more than half the fun, sometimes.
Like I have said in some of these postings, we are having a great time learning some things as we go, anyway. Journey versus Destination? Heck, if along this little journey we find the answer, all the better.
It would be interesting to hear what the "Critters" thing is all about, too.

Good point. Why do I do that stupid strip? Because I enjoy it. Yep. Good point.

Obviously this is fun for you and a lot of others. My apologies. Seriously.

Its all good "surfpirate".
Keep enjoying it!

Seriously, too... I am intersted in knowing how you got started with the Critters. You definitely have the creative touch! If you are ever in the Frisco area (Perhaps, for the next show.), I would really like to meet you. Scott plans to be at the next Frisco show, too.

I also was at the 79 show at Kings Dominion. I was 13 and had no idea that guy on stage would provide the background music for the rest of my life.
