You're kidding, right? I was listening on RM and packed it in about halfway through, I thought it was one of the worst shows of this year's tour. And no show that includes Glory Days can be considered the best ever. It's not even a good Springsteen song and JB's version blows monkeys.
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here

I was thinking the same thing...You lost me on Glory Days. Jimmy's worst cover at the moment.LIPH wrote:You're kidding, right? Hey, Glory Days is the song we used leaving church, after we got married and everyone filed out instead of cheesy organ music... (Springsteen Version) ....
Completely tasteless but who cares so are we.

Re: MGM - Best show i have seen
I was there. It was a good show, but different. Here are some thoughts:
-Vegas shows are very different than other venues. It seems to me that you can tell that a good portion of the crowd are not Parrotheads and are just going to a "show" in Vegas. I was in section 208 and only a few of us were standing for the whole show. Others only stood during a few songs, Margaritaville, etc.. I can't imagine sitting down during Gypsies in the Palace but most people there did just that.
- I wonder if because of this, JB goes with a setlist that has a little more appeal to non-hardcore fans. Viva Las Vegas, Glory Days, Back Where I Come From, Why Don't We Get Drunk, etc. are songs that most everyone knows. Yes he plays some of these at any venue but it seemed quite "stacked" with songs like this.
+'s:
-JB and and the band had tons of energy. Lots of dancing, laughs and smiles. It was genuine enthusiam which is always nice.
- Bama Breeze was just outstanding
- Seeing thousands of decked-out Parrotheads basically taking over the Las Vegas Strip on Saturday was very amusing
- Defying Gravity was nice, and Jimmy cracked up the crowd by singing "I never do dream I may fall.....Except I did". But his voice was excellent on this one and the crowd was moved.
-'s:
- Jimmy messed up on Defying Gravity, ommitting the best line of the song "Even the high must lay low."
- The unenthused crowd surrounding us.
- I think the souvenir margaritas at the street party by Margaritaville going for $32 is a bit steep. They were $20 on Friday, but get jacked up for the party. Hundreds of people still had them though.
I'm sure there are other thoughts, but my brain isn't working the best right now!

It's like when he plays at Mohegan Sun and AC. So many tickets going to "whales" and not fans.

Re: MGM - Best show i have seen
I have to agree with a few of the posters that was indeed one of the best shows ever. I have been going to Buffett shows for nearly 20 years.
Here what I enjoyed about the experience, because in my opinion, a Buffett show in Vegas is like no other experirence in life.
1. Vegas is a special place, that is, if you appreciate unlimited drinking (bars that never close) and gambling. And of course, you have the money to do so. And as Frank Sinatra sang, "I want to wake up in a city, that does'nt sleep..."
2. Even though there is no "tailgaiting," there is still a lot of fun to be had.
3. The highlight of the night for me was Buffett opening up with "Viva Las Vegas." I really don't care for the song, but once again, Buffett singing the song while in Vegas makes it doubly special.
4. The video screens were way cool. Either I was drunk or they almost seemed to be in 3D. And I do not do drugs...LOL! Unless, I was slipped some acid.
5. Favorite song of the night..."Back Where I Come From."
6. For those of you who were there, I was the semi-loud guy with the Bose stereo system playing Buffett songs before the show. After the show, I played "Sweet Caroline." It was cool to see all the Parrotheads singing it up.
7. As for the stree party, I was not impressed. I was glad I took my Bose to start my own party. The least they could have done was play some cover Buffett songs, or Buffett songs.
8. More importantly, you gotta give it up to the MGM for allowing us Parrotheads to raise hell.
9. Finally, I agree that there were some people that just sat through the show.

Re: MGM - Best show i have seen
Jimmy did do something different this time around... he had the house lights turned on for Fins... that was kinda like seeing the inside of Space Mountain or Rock and Roller Coaster in Disney with the lights on
(Now that was probably for the benefit of the non-fans so that they could see how everyone else was doing it... kinda dark in there

Thats why you walk over next door to O'Sheas and grab a Guinness for a fraction of the price.
Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.

Re: MGM - Best show i have seen
For me, every Buffett show is much better than the previous one because it might be the last time I ever see Buffett. Sadly, and I am sure applies to me of us passionate Parrotheads, I cannot imagine life without a Buffett concert. When that day arrives, well...I know that a little bit of me will end as well.

If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

Re: MGM - Best show i have seen
So glad you loved the show! For many of us listening in, it seemed pretty flat, but it is always different in person, and opinions always depend on your perspective. That's the fun of it-what some of us find an average show, to others may come across as a great one!CNSBA2 wrote:Here are a few from the MGM show, its the best we have seen yet IMO only. If I didn't know any better I thought I made this post - I couldn't have said it any better. Especially after seeing the set list from the 15th and being at the St. Louis show, this was not what I expected. From a fan standpoint, I was in section 5 and couldn't believe the lack of energy and all the sitting in that section - blown away.BillyClyde wrote:I was there. It was a good show, but different.
