Laid Back in Miami?

I'm headed to Miami Beach over the winter break, and am looking for laid back places to hang/ things to do. Can't make it down the Keys (no car), but is there anyplace in Miami that comes close?

Miami has an airport, Key West has an airport.

There are about three flights a day.

I dunno, if I was that close, I know where I wouldn't be staying.

I checked, and it adds about $300 r/t to the trip. And there are no rooms available those dates for under $200. night, unless I stay in the hostel on South Street. I could go down by bus, and stay at the hostel...Or have a hotel room of my own on South Beach. Bought the airine ticket before checking out the total cost of being down there...
