So, just thinking out loud here, but:

The island (well cay) that Key West resides on runs roughly east/west. Old Towne is on the western side of the island and fronts the Gulf of Mexico.

It is also part of Florida (although some would beg to differ).

Thus, Old Towne Key West is on the West Coast of Florida.

So in answer to the question " Florida's West Coast where should I go?" I would answer:
"Key West"

Sorry couldn't resist...

Rabbitz,

I have been going to Key West since 1990 been there at least 35 times and love it so much I named my Daughter Mallory after Mallory Square. In my location under my Aviator I have Lazy Way Lane. Its a little alley that runs behind Schooners Wharf. Even my Aviator is and old Fantasy Fest picture taken in front of the Quay. I think its a CVS now :( . We are going back in November during MOTM. Every year we take the family somewhere we have never been. I found I really like the West Coast of Florida. Next Year I'm thinking Destin, Fort Walton area.

My sister, BIL, and two kids just rented a house on Marco Island in April for a week, I think they spent about $2500...weather was great and the water was warm. They had looked at the Emerald Coast area but the water was a bit colder so they chose MI instead. Anna Maria Island is nice, too.

Hey Nancy,
Do you know the street the house was on? We have been going to Marco for the last 6 years and renting the salme house and we really love it.

I'll ask her...they loved it, I think they will return every year now. Nice house, pool, close to beach, pier, bike rentals, mini golf, etc. She did say there was a little tavern/restaurant right on the corner.

Just wondering if it is close to where we stay. Thanks

We hit john's Pass a few times very nice and did the Pirate ship. It was great saw Dolphins. The Hotel was ok for the money, bed sucked but great area. Nice tikki Bar good music most of the day at the pool. I don't know what they put in the pool but it tuned my silver necklace black in about 3 hours my wife was like what the hell it that on your neck. There is a Sloppy Joe's on the Island that was cool and two places I will definitely recommend if any reads this follow up "The Salted Rim" and "Sea Hags" both had great food and great music
Glad you had a great time! Sorry the bed sucked and the necklace turned black, but it sounds like it was an overall positive experience, which I'm happy to hear.

Planning a summer trip, flying in to Tampa on a Saturday, and out of Fort Lauderdale the Monday 9 days later. Planning to stay in a few spots along the way... Treasure Island area a couple days, Sanibel a couple days, maybe Marco Island a day, Islamorada a day, Kew West two days, and then Lauderdale area for our last day.

Any additional recommendations along the way for things to do, places to stay, and yummies in our tummies on our Gulf Coast road trip?

Thanks!

So this morning I get an email notification that this old post got bumped and it was just what I needed. I haven't been posting in a long time. I have been reading posts for an hour.

Here's what I can say without hogging the response. Treasure Island was great a definite repeat trip for the future. The Thunderbird was a great place to stay. Nice little restaurant on the property Great Tiki Bar on property Beach and location were great

I second Anna Maria Island

Now to my specialty The Keys if I could only hit one place along they way here's what I would do:

On Key Largo would be "Snappers" get place to stop after the Drive in from Lauderdale

On Islamorada I would hit "The Island Grill" or "Lorelei"

Marathon "The Island Fish Co."

Key West "Blue Heaven for Breakfast" "Schooners Wharf for drinks and Hanging out" "B.O's Fish Wagon just cuz best fish sandwich"

Duval Street Mallory Square for a Sun Set

Your gonna need a few days in Key West
\
Enjoy the ride

Sadly my old ass hasn't been to Great Woods in a few years. I think the last time I was there he did like 3 or 4 shows and we hit two. I may try and get tickets for Jones Beach this year. Being from CT I have seen him the last few time at Mohegan Sun Casino but the ticket prices are crazy.

Great Woods a few years back

I'll add some tummy yummies! Lol. The Sandbar restaurant on Anna Maria Island. Sharkys in Venice at the pier. Marco has so many great places. Joeys pizza on Collier Boulevard is awesome. Also get over to Isle of Capri just before the Marco bridge and get the Sautéed fish at the Pelican Bend restaurant. Absolutely fabulous.

That's why you need to come back...look how relaxed you are. [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif]

I've seen JB at Mohegan, it's okay, but I'm not much of a gambler and my first preference is always to see him at an outdoor venue. Mohegan is good for off season.
