Steel Drum sheet music

Post by TERPTROOPER »

Hello All and Happy New Year!! My daughter's boyfriend got a set of Steel Drums for Xmas and I thought I would try to get him some sheet music from JB. I have looked online and then thought I would try the BuffettNews family first [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif] . Any help would be great, Thanks!!

My friends say that there is no real "sheet music" available for the pans. They use a combo of guitar chords (available on BN) and piano sheet music. Hope this helps!

if you really want sheeted music i would suggest that you check out http://www.panyard.com as they are one of the few companies that i have found to stock all necessary accessories and most anything that you might need for any size pan orchestra

There is no "sheet" music. It is an instrument just like any other with notes to hit...so to speak. You need to find a good teacher. I am friends with Jerry Diaz's pan player and that is what he told me as my kid wanted a pan last May for about 30 days. The want went away :P

That same definition would probably also fit a piano or organ, and trust me when I say that there is sheet music for both of these instruments.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't pan drums made up of segments tuned to different notes? Then if, as a novice, you want to hit those notes in the correct order, why wouldn't you have a piece of music indicating which notes to play and in what order?

If you are capable of reading music and can recognize the melody line, ordinary piano sheet music would probably work just fine.

Try Brad Shores www.tropicalshores.net or a fake book in the key of the pans
