I thought about not renting a car at all, because I'm at the Red Roof Inn across the street from the venue and can easily just walk there (again), and the Wing House is next door so I'd be set.
But I'm there two days before and after the concert and will need transportation to HOOTERS, so it's Avis to the rescue.

there's always wing house within walking distance. Take that ~$35/day rental car and turn it into wings 'n drinks!

With the amount of money you spend at Hooters, they should send a limo out to pick you up.
Or part ownership in a franchise.

Now you've given me something to think about.
It would be more than $35.00 a day. Even though I'm only there for 5 days, they want to charge me for an entire week.
All I'd have to spend is cab fare to & from the airport. But I was hoping to be able to go somewhere and get some beer for the tailgate.

I bought beer at the gas station next to the Wing House last year, they had a decent selection....besides, there will be many locals who have cars if you need a ride somewhere.

I know where Total Wine is, and the have a nice selection of beer, wine and liquor. They are not as big as Specs
but good sized.

agreed, gas station 12/24 pack price still has to be better than a rental car, and selection sometimes has something unique. Sounds like MGG may make a total wine run too, if you can set off the bat-signal and con him into picking up some

RIGHT!
I remember now that Larry and I bought beer and lots of ice at that gas station (B/P-?) last year, and, if I remember correctly, they also had styrafoam ice chests for sale there too.
I don't like showing up at tailgates with nothing, so I'll pick up some goodies there. Thanks, Chris.
I'll definately NOT rent a car now. (Not TRYING to be a cheapskate, but almost $400.00 for five friggin' days? COME ON!!! I got a great deal on a mid-sized rental for the Jacksonville concert with Dollar Rental Car).

We will have a car and will be there for 2 days--so you don't have to rent a car for those 2 days.

Man I can't wait for this show! Me and my buddy J.R. will be coming down.
I can't really do two shows right now so I'm passing up J-ville right here in my backyard for Tampa.
A 3 day weekend may just call for a drive to the keys after the show! It certainly has before.
The last time I was in Tampa, there was this guy that looked just like me who got too sh#tfaced and missed the show.
This time I hope that guy does not mix liquor and beer too much because that's when things usually go wrong from him.

We're doing it the other way around... leaving 3 days in Key West behind to drive up to Tampa for our 1st JB concert. Can't wait...
And BTW, I have the same problem mixing liquids. I can drink those LandSharks I see in your hand for hours on end. But give me half a dozen whiskeys and I wake up 10 hours later in a haze... I now have a strict "One Shot per Night" policy that seems to work well.
See you there!

Might need a drink or three, to celebrate!!

That's what we're going to be doing, too. We'll be kicking off our tailgate in Key West Monday-Thursday, driving up to Naples or thereabouts on Thursday, then Tampa for Friday and Saturday.
Seeing as it's 22 degrees here in PA this morning, just typing out that itinerary makes me feel a little better. Can't wait...

Think we get in around 12:30...might be too early for you to pick us up at the airport....if that's the case, we'll meet you at the hotel.

For those who are coming in from out of town and considering a car rental, I just scored a great deal for a car on Priceline. Renting from St. Pete airport, the whole week from 3/25-4/1, put in a bid for a full-size car for $30/day and got it. Avis accepted, total with taxes just $271 !!!!
Of course, there was no such deal across the street from the concert at the highly-rated Comfort Suites. Friday and Saturday nights avaerages out to $200+/night...
Can't wait to meet some new phriends!
