Montego Bay by Cruise Ship

Post by catsway »

We'll be sailing on our twentieth cruise next month for Valentines. It will be our first time in Montego Bay. Zip lining is our morning excursion. What can we do with the rest of our day that would include cocktails at Margaritaville? Thank you for any suggestions.

I guess you could spend the afternoon "Wasting away in Margaritaville®" Montego Bay :) (But you already knew that)

Drink at Margaritaville but eat at the Pork Pit....it's about a 5 minute walk from Margaritaville along the bay towards town. I swear, I can smell the the BBQ Jerk Sauce through my computer when viewing the Pork Pit on YouTube! Best BBQ chicken and pulled pork I ever, ever tasted!
I was there on a cruise, too. In the morning, we went tubing on a river in the mountains above Montego Bay. When our river guide pulled a gallon plastic bottle filled with Rum Punch from his daypack, we knew for certain that we had signed up for the right shore excursion!
The place had a zipline across the river, too. Looked fun. Hard to top floating through the jungle with a bottomless glass of Rum Punch, however!

Pork Pit and Scotchie's are both GREAT!

Scotchie's jerk pork is one of the best things I've eaten in 6 trips to Jamaica.

Right next to Margaritaville is Doctor's Cave Beach. You can pay $5 to enter the beach and swim there, but you can also swim right off the M-ville property including a water slide from the roof and water trampoline out in the bay.

Depending on the time you have in port, there is also a snorkeling/booze cruise that leaves from Doctors Cave twice a day. The place is called Tropical Dreamer.

We had a great time. We chose to do the canopy tour (zip line) with Chukka Tours. Very professional. They take you up into the mountains about 45 minutes from Montego Bay. After hooking us up with gear and a quick orientation, we walked for about ten minutes to the first of 7 runs. Some were long and some were short, but the best one was the last. 1100 feet, 350 feet in the air over beautiful lush tropical forests and rivers. Best part was when Cat got stuck on the last run and the handsome Jamaican guide had to repel to her, wrap his legs around her and hand over hand her up to the landing. All the other women wanted to get stuck too! When we returned to the pier, the driver offered to give us a lift to the Hip Strip. We shopped a bit, had a couple of boat drinks at M'ville. Very beautiful area and friendly people.

Sounds like a fun time, Wayne. I sailed into Montego Bay on TRADEWIND back in '79, first stop on the trip from Puerto Rico to Pensacola.

Hey Steve. Thank you. We did have a great cruise. Cat says one of the best. We are seriously considering the Barefoot Cruise in March 2013. Smaller ship = smaller ports/islands. Birthday fun!
